Josiah's Autism - Recovering His Childhood
We are putting the pieces of his life back together!
In April 2005, our son was given a possible diagnosis of autism. In August, two doctors at the Marcus Institute for autism confirmed this diagnosis. All of his actions began to indicate autism when he was around 13 to 16 months. Josiah was born a normal and healthy baby. Slowly, some time after his 1st birthday, (May 22,2003) he began to slip away from us into his own little world. He also began to have various health complications asthma, loss of hearing, sinus infections, sleep apnea etc. He also was not mentally developing like other toddlers.
Several explanations were given to us (delayed development, boys are slower, etc.) After his surgery (removal of his adenoids and tubes for his ears), and a few months of speech and occupational therapy,we were told that we would see improvements. He had two therapists Demetria for speech and Stephanie for occupational therapy. They literally had to start from ground zero in trying to pull him out of a lonely and frustrating world. After a year with speech and occupational therapy once a week, we saw some improvement. But he still could not talk or understand the things that he should know. He’s had two more procedures for various health reasons, but nothing could help his speech and mental development. We were told to prepare our family to deal with a child who would grow up mentally retarded. Our world already revolved around constant watch and several precautions for him. He is very quick and has little to no regard for any danger.
If he gets frustrated he would scratch or bite anyone. We let him watch a dvd when we go some where because it makes him focus on something he likes rather than all the things going on around him. He used to yell or holler randomly but that didn’t always mean that something was wrong. He also used to flap his arms and rock very hard to repeatedly hit his head. I began searching day and night and reading other testimonies. I prayed every morning and throughout the day that God would show me what I could do to get my little boy back. After a lot of prayer, research and contact with my family, I started a plan of action. We began to see great improvements in his behavior and we continue to see glimpses of our son and his personality. He’s has a long road ahead of him, but by faith we know God is going to bring him out of this and use it for His glory. I’m encouraged by family members and friends who are praying for Josiah and trying to find ways to help him. I’ve learned of alternate ways to not only help my son, but also help other friends who are looking for ways to heal.
After a lot of prayer, intense research, and guidance we have started a plan of action by changing his diet. We also began a slow process of removing the mercury from his body, the suspected culprit behind his autism, and adding a great deal of vitamin and herbal supplements. The links that are attached to this web page contains the information on what we have implemented for our son and what other families have implemented for their children.
