PUPPY SELECTION & TEMPERAMENT

I generally like to get to know the prospective new owner before the pups are even conceived; it helps to make the whole process go smoother.

I will accept a deposit for a puppy ONLY after these conditions are met:
* When I feel that the person inquiring about a pup understands the needs of the breed and is fully prepared to take care of the pup for it's lifetime, this could be through phone conversations or through several emails. If they are near enough to visit, they MUST make an effort to meet me and my adult dogs.

* They understand the deposit, once given, is NON-REFUNDABLE and that I alone reserve the right to REFUSE or RETURN a deposit.

* They are 100% positive that they want a Jordan Boxer and understand that it may take 2-3 LITTERS to actually receive a pup, although the incident is rare.

******* HOW A PUP IS SELECTED OR PLACED WITH A NEW FAMILY ********

In the interest of fairness, I take information from the prospective new owners as to the preference in color, markings and the sex of the pup. When the pups are whelped I match, to the best of my ability, the information from each individual to a specific pup. I take photos of the pup (that most closely matches the preference of that customer) at 7-10 days old and send them through email to each customer.(Bearing in mind that I have Construction business to run, 10 dogs and 2 children to care for, sometimes I am not able to take pics and send them out in a timely fashion, so please be patient)
At that point, you may accept or decline the pup...If there are other pups still available I may send the other photos for you to choose from. If there are no other pups and someone declines the pup offered, then they go to the top of the list for the next litter (of my choice). I can not guarantee that you'll receive a pup that is a perfect match to the one you had in your mind's eye, but none the less, you'll receive a terrific Boxer pup.

When prospective puppy buyers look at a litter, they have a specific "look" in mind and a good puppy and potentially outstanding dog can be passed up just because someone thinks that it's face is too black or that the white spot on it's chest is not big enough.
If a prospective owner is near enough to visit at the time of whelp, I do, occasionally, allow them to personally pick their pup from the pups that have NOT been reserved. Generally, this is not the case for most folks, so I tend to use the method described above.

TEMPERAMENT

The temperament of each Jordan Boxer pup is excellent. Rarely will there be a shy or timid pup. If that happens to be the case, I pay particular attention to socializing that pup so that by the time it leaves Jordan Acres it is a happy, confident individual.
The pups have plenty of visitors and are raised around children & adult dogs. They are also exposed to various types of yard equipment, i.e. lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc.

The European influence in the Jordan line is very apparent and the pups tend to act a bit differently than the American Boxer pups do.

For instance:
* They tend to exhibit a higher "Prey Drive" and enjoy chasing balls and toys that you throw for them, also, they tend to chase family cats and small animals.
* The Euro and Euro/American Boxer can have a much different looking face and body; their muzzles are shorter and wider, exhibiting more chin which is the standard for Germany and The Netherlands (sometimes giving them a "Monkey or Gorilla face")
* Their feet are sometimes 50% larger when full grown than an American.
* They tend to have a stockier build, more apparent muscle, larger shoulders and thicker necks to support a somewhat broader, yet proportioned, skull
* Their coat may be somewhat longer than an American making them a slight bit more resilient to the cold, but less able to deal with the heat and humidity. (they NEED to be Air-Conditioned)They need to be brushed once a week.
* They tend to chew on wood and need to be taught properly so that they do not gnaw on your favorite chair.
* They also tend to be healthier in the heart and hip than the Americans, although this is not an absolute guarantee.
* They can get food allergies, so maintaining a healthy diet that doesn't vary too much can help to prevent this. (see main page for a partial list of foods that they should NOT be fed)

I do Schutzhund testing which includes a temperament test for potential pups that may grow up to enter the sport or even go on to be K-9 police dogs.

It is important to remember that everything is "new" to a puppy and must be introduced to it. Pups form an "opinion" of certain persons, animals or objects between the ages of 7-16 weeks. How an adult Boxer will react to a particular stimulus is greatly dependant upon IF and HOW it was socialized as a pup.

Refences are available upon request for those who would like to speak to folks who have acquired a Jordan Boxer in the past.
