Short CV Jean-Michel Pommet

Jean-Michel POMMET, PhD, 38, french nationality.

Jean-Michel started in the food industry sector in 1989 (HND in Food Industry & Biotechnology in 1991). His passion for biology conducted him to start learning deeply cellular biology and microbiology. After being specialized in Virology, Cellular & Molecular biology, he has been graduated in 2000 in Parasitology, at the University of Montpellier (France).

He left France for UK to conduct a project in nanotechnology: (“the small heat shock proteins as nanomachines”) in the Professor Roy Quinlan’s lab at the University of Dundee and the University of Durham. The project, funded by private companies, was awarded in September 2001 by the Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Executive & Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

Then Jean-Michel get back to France at the prestigious “Ecole Normale Superieure” in Paris to work on Alzheimer’s disease in Alain Prochiantz’ lab. His work has confirmed the existence of a partner of the amyloid precursor protein (APP) and demonstrated its key role in cellular death (apoptosis).

After a quick mission to establish a new lab / plate-form on recombinant proteins for a cancer institute in Nantes (France), he joined a team of three people to build-up the first ever European Virtual Institute on Bio- and Micro-encapsulation Sciences & Technology (VIBMST). Scientific Project Manager, he was the direct link between client in any industrial field (pharmaceutical, agronomy, food/feed, cosmetic, textile, ...) and a network of experts in microencapsulation. He established a portal website to make available know-how in microencapsulation and to drive clients to post their technical challenges.

In April 2005 Jean-Michel joined ARCHES (Advanced Research Centre for Health, Environment and Space, www.arches-centroricerca.org) as full member and french contact point to develop Knowledge and Technology Transfer in the frame of European projects. In the mean time he learnt more deeply European Technology Transfer issue (IP...) with Proton Europe following lessons and practical courses in Spain and UK.

In January 2006, Jean-Michel joined a European corporate finance group as their Associate Sector Leader in Life-Sciences to help them in entering the complex biotech sector. By pre-evaluating scientifically & economically complex projects, Jean-Michel is an investments' enhancer in the Life Sciences' sector. He left this position end of 2006 to fully work on his own project...

In April 2006 Jean-Michel set up his own consulting & technology transfer company in biotechnology, Gate2Tech, to meet the increasing needs of industrials to solve multiple technical challenges and transfer innovative or existing technology from academic & innovative SMEs to industrial sectors mainly in 6 core sectors: food-feed, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, medical and environment.
Acting as intermediary, Gate2Tech has also developped key technical events (conferences and trade fair: PROBIOTECH, IPEMTECH, MICROBIOTA...) and Jean-Michel decided to separate this activity from the tech-transfer by creating Event4Science beginning of 2009.
