John A. Manney:Author & Air Force Veteran
John Manney is a 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force, Computer Technician Administrator and author of a number of autobiographical articles; seen in Capper's, Good Old Days - Looking Back, Vietnam and the primer issue of "Small Towns" Magazine with his article about Summit County Colorado's early day Sheriff Carl Enyeart, John's grandfather.
John was born in Denver and raised in Breckenridge, Colorado until his teen years, when his family moved to Eugene, Oregon. John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from Oregon at the age 18-years-old, seeking independence and a vocation in aircraft maintenance. His Air Force career spanned both the Vietnam and Cold War eras. As a flight-engineer assigned to a Drone squadron, John was awarded five-air metals for missions flown over North Vietnam. Later he was assigned to a specialized support unit that assisted intelligence missions in Southeast Asia.
Following his military career, John received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electronic Engineering Technology and an Associate in Occupational Studies in Electronic Technology from Education Dynamics Institute and attended the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. John and his wife base their lives in the American Southwest. Like most writers, his life experiences have made their way into his writing.
Community involvement includes: Computer technician hardware lab assistance for community seniors. His hobbies comprise travel; stamp collecting, custom mat and framing, Cola-Cola memorabilia collecting, vintage cola machine restoration and a passion for fishing.
John has been fortunate to fish waters in quite a few states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Recently, he has made several trips to Cozumel, Mexico to deep sea fish and another to the Florida Keys.
He and his wife enjoy self-defining adventure travel and in 2007, they visited Antarctica, going to the White Continent aboard a vintage (1957) ice breaking ship. Always in search of another travel experience, John and his wife frequently travel abroad and domestically.
