2012 Predictions
There is information and rumours about the end of humanity everywhere, though it has cropped up a lot more on the web in the last few years. The most popular and specific date of this will be on December 21, 2012. The end date of the ancient Mayan calendar is December 21, 2012.In addition, the ancient Nostrodamus forecast disasters in the weeks before the date of 21 December 2012.
The end of the world has always fascinated many people who have imagined and even tried to predict what it will be like. The people who believe this are driven by a prophecy of Nostrodamus that another planet will come close to our planet and could knock Earth off of its gravitational axis. This could also cause the Earth's crust to be torn and natural disasters would occur that kill many except for a small percentage of people. The survivors of such a catasrophe as this are thought to have already been chosen and the government is supposed to protect them.
This topic - those who would survive - has led to many questions.Conspiracy theories have also arisen. A very common conspiracy theory is that the New World Order is actively going to protect a few thousand select individuals to maintain and continue the species. This theory supposes that the list of survivors will include those in power in government and corporations, those who can bear children and are healthy, and those who can maintain and continue to develop technology.
The selected few will be housed in underground bunkers, where supplies such as food and water have been stockpiled to supplythem for at least several years. The underground bunker will serve as a shelter to protect those who are living within.
As well as the necessities of food and water in the bunkers, they will also have items such as seeds for growing their own produce over the years. These seeds will start a new life and would feed may families in the future. This expected practice is based on the theory that after such a series of disasters the earth's soil will be unable to sustain life for a long time, if ever.
Theories such as this seem very difficult to understand. A common question is whether the government is attempting to maintain calm among the populace while some openly question about the upcoming events. Those who beleive in these theories question who will be the chosen people on the list to be saved.
While we have no evidence of a scientific nature to demonstrate that this will happen, there are many other events that could pose a threat to us and to the planet - even before the year 2012. The chances of a catastrophe suchas an asteroid strike hitting the earth, some sort super-bug flu pandemic, terrorism involving nuclear or chemical weapons, all of these possibilites pose threats every day. There is little if anything that can be certain in this life, but routine preparedness for various events is advised.
