This is the story of the flukasoreise
Well it all started in the summer 2001 my buddy Skipper Lou who is a big man on Staten Island (you we see later) called up his little fat buddy (that would be me) to say the fluke were running. He wanted to know if I wanted to get away from puddle fishing (lakes and streams) and do some real fishing. I jump at the chance for two reasons one to get out on the water the other I knew the skipper would make a great meal after woods.
So I dug out an old salt-water rod that belong to my brother Steve (god rest his soul) and put new line on it. And I was ready to go. I jumped in the car and headed out of the Pocono’s down to Staten Island.
That night the Sipper and me just hung around all I could do was thinking about the next day. It was hard to sleep that night thinking about being on the water the next day. I felt like a kid on Christmas Eve, except I was not wearing new pajamas. When we got up in the morning we rushed out the door and down to the mighty vessel the SS LOOPSEELOU to take us on our three-hour tour. As the engine was warming up the skipper got all the gear ready poles rods and of course the net he also calculated the fuel in his log book he says never trust a gauge. Me being the first mate that day I castled off the lines and got back in the boat and off we went. We left the dock and headed out of Great Kills Harbor. We waved to all the fishermen that were on the beach surf fishing Then the Skipper open the boat up we where moving now
We headed out by the verezzono bridge were the fluke were hitting. And rigged up the poles, we were using sand worm and squid for bait. The Skipper asked me were I would like to sit and when I told him he said that is were he sit all the time but since I was his little fat buddy I could sit there today.
At this point it was time to drown some worms. I was the first to catch a fish also the second third froth fifth and sixth to make a long store short the Skipper could not buy a fish. He said that it was ok as long as I was having a good time, and that I was. All a long I could hear the Skipper cursing under his breath. And then it happen I got a bite that almost pulled me out of the boat. When we got it on board it was 28 inches the skipper could not believe it. He said it was one of the biggest fluke that he seen in a long time. About this time the Skipper pulled in a fluke that was the size of the bait we were using. He took it off the line gave it a little kiss and told it to send up its grand father I was laughing my
Butt off when the skipper got a hit it was putting up a hell of a fight I though he was just playing around. But when we got it on board it was 42 inches a real door mat.
And that my friends is the store of flukrsories
