---somewhat of a mystery man. His Revolutionary War records indicate
---he was born in 1752 near Philadelphia PA. Family lore
---passed through the Booth family indicate he was in fact born at sea
---coming from Germany. Neither "fact" has been proven. His grave
---marker in the Potts Cemetery in Loudoun Co., VA lists his
---death as "Feb 5, 1844, in his 96th year of age" which would place
---his birth around 1748. Born Mar 22, 1752 in Germany (or "near
---Philadelphia PA") d 05 FEB 1844 in Leesburg, Loudoun, VA buried in
---Potts Cemetery, he was a Revoutionary War Soldier who was most
---likely born in Germany, though his Revolutionary War papers say
---"Somewhere near Philadelphia" as his place of origin.
---Family lore and family bible documentation indicates he may have
---been born onboard the ship on the way to the U.S. and that his

Obituary:
Rites Here-For Walter Gideon
Walter Marion Gideon was born
Jan. 18, 1890 at Hall county, Ne-
braska, the son of Emma and Price
Gideon, and departed this life Dec.
27, 1953, at the age of 63 years,
11 months and 9 days.
About the year 1900 the Gideon
family moved from Nebraska to a
farm east of Moravia in the scat-
tersburg neighorhood, where he
spent most of his life as a farmer.
He was united in marriage to
Miss Effie McCumber, Oct. 21,
1911. To this union one son, Roger,
was born. They took into their
home, Betty Mae Hiatt when a
child and raised her as their own,
giving her loving care and coun-
sel. Mr. and Mrs. Gideon united
with the Chistian church at Mo-
ravia in 1913. He was bereaved
of his wife July 15, 1943.
On Dec. 24, 1944, he was united
in marrage to Mrs. Osa Cory.
Shortly after their marriage they
moved to a farm in the North
Bend neighborhood. Two years
ago they moved to Winfield, Iowa,
where they resided at the time of
his death.
He is survived by his wife, Osa;
son, Roger Gideon, Amana, Iowa;
father, Price Gideon, Moravia;
one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Lockman,
Moravia, one brother, Roy Gideon,
Floris; three granddaughters, (non-pulblised), Janice and Jeraldine Gid-
eon; Betty Mea Hiatt Horn and
her children, Judy, Jean and Den-
nis Horn; five nephews, Glen and
Lloyd Lockman, Cecil, Sterling,
Chester Gideon; a stepson, Lauren
Cory of Winfield, and a stepdaugh-
ter, Mrs. Corita Cory Williams of
Plymouth, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his
mother, April 15 1949.
Funeral serviceswere held Tues-
day Dec. 29 at 2:00 o'clock with
Turner Funeral home in charge.
Rev. John Grenfell officated. Pall
bearers were Kenneth Coltrain,
Marve Lockman, Jepp Lockman,
Roy Gilliland, Gomer Stocker, and
Raymond Lockman. Interment was
at Hillcrest cemetery.
