Lordship of Jesus

The Lordship of Jesus Christ .

The purpose of this lesson is for all Christians to understand the claims of Jesus Christ upon his or her life, and to submit to Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Saviour.

God's plan.
Genesis 1: 24
Everything on earth was created by God to reproduce after its own kind in abundance.

He created the heavens and the earth, the spiritual world including angels and all living creatures except mankind, by His spoken word. He did this by speaking words filled with His faith ,the God kind of faith.

Hebrews 11: 3- by faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command.
Mankind

He did not speak mankind into existance. He formed him out of the dust of the earth.
Genesis 1: 26 - 27

However man (both male and female ) was created in God's image and after his own likeness .

Genesis 2: 9 Instead of creating them by speaking words filled with His faith, God bent down in the dust and moulded man into shape.
Genesis 2: 7

He then moulded woman out of the rib of the man. Verse
Gen.2:21 - 22

Through this unique act of creation, God clearly identified mankind as different and unique from the rest of creation.

Great Commission
Genesis 2: 15 . It tells us that God placed Adam in the garden of Eden.

Adam was to look after it and protect it.

Man was given absolute authority on the earth.

(B) THE FALL
GENESIS 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
The margin of my Bible says "dying thou shalt die". The Word is saying that there are two deaths.

Gen3:1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit there of, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

Gen 3:9And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

At this point of time Adam and Eve experienced spiritual death.
Adam’s and Eve’s spirit did not die, but they had a spiritual experience. The glory and the nature of God left their spirit
and satan’s nature entered into their spirit.

First, spiritual death unto God.
Second , physical death.

MAN HAD GOD'S NATURE BEFORE HE SINNED.

--SIN ENTERED THE SPIRIT OF MAN.

--MAN WAS CUT OFF FROM GOD.

---MAN CEASED TO HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD.

--MAN ENTERED THE DOMAIN OF SATAN.

---MAN RECEIVED SATAN'S NATURE.

Satan's nature is to steal, kill, and destroy.

God gave all authority to Adam, however Adam gave all authority away to satan when he ate from the tree, as God had commanded him not to eat from it.

Genesis 2: 16. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, of every fruit of the garden thou mayest freely eat

17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof :thou shalt surely die.

In the margin of my Bible it says" dying thou shall die".

God is referring to two deaths first the spiritual then the physical.

This sin brought spiritual death ( and then physical death ) throughout the whole human race.

First there was a spiritual death where Adam's spirit was separated from God. His spirit did not die, but lost God's nature and glory, and received satan's nature. Then Adam's body eventually died. God indicated two deaths.

The Bible says
John 10:10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Rebellion

This rebellion also shut God out of his legal right to operate on the earth, so he began to search for a man who would enter into covenant relationship with him, thus allowing him to legally operate on the earth through that man and for humanity. Abraham was that man.

All those Old Testament covenants lead up and point to the New
Testament brought about by Jesus Christ's death on the cross.
In the new covenant, man is placed in the right relationship with
God through Christ .

Hebrews 7: 22,

Hebrews 8: 6 -13,

2 Corinthian 3: 66 - 18
Problem: Sin brought death both spiritual and natural.

Romans3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Roman 6: 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

As a result, we all had to die for our sins. No one could die on our behalf unless they were without sin, and that is where Jesus came in. He led a sinless life without ever sinning, and so was able to die on our behalf. We have to accept this sacrifice to get the benefits of it, but in accepting His death on our behalf, we have to also accept to live our lives with Jesus as our Lord and Saviour.

This is the basis of the Lordship of Jesus over our lives.

2 Corinthian 5: 14 -15. 14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

The nature of salvation.
The unbeliever does not need to change his deeds or his bad habits, instead he needs his nature changed. He needs the nature of Jesus.

Jesus is the only one who can change this. Salvation is found in no other name than the name of Jesus.

Good works will not make us righteous, but righteousness will produce good works which are acceptable unto God.

When we invite Jesus in our lives, repent of our sins, ask Him to make us born again of His Spirit, and receive Him as our Lord and
Saviour, then we are made right with God or righteous.

Jesus then lives inside us. Our nature is then automatically changed.

John 3: 7 Jesus came right to the point with Nicodemus.

Process of growth.

The Word doesn't imply that from the moment of salvation we instantly make an outward change.

There is a process of growth. When we are born again, the seed of faith is planted inside us. This seed will grow as we study the Word and pray.

The Bible is God speaking to us. It is alive , the living voice from heaven.
James 1: 22 tells us to be doers of the Word and not hearers only.

Renewing the mind

Being in the Word and obeying it will renew our minds. The renewing of our minds brings our will into agreement with the Father's will, and then we begin to think as He thinks. His ways become our ways .

Isaiah55: 8
The fullness of God.
We find in Ephesians 3: 19 the scripture reads:
And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.

The Greek word for knowledge is GNOSIS'. It is a reference to man's knowledge. God's knowledge surpasses anything man knows. Each day as we grow, we should focus on being as God wants us to be. Many people may never go to Church or pick up a
Bible, but they can see Jesus in us.

Supreme ruler
The Lordship of Jesus Christ means that Jesus is supreme over every area of our lives.

Someone or something may control your life, for example perhaps selfish desires or pleasures.

Jesus requires total control of our lives. If the issue of Lordship is not settled, we cannot advance any further in the Christian life.
What does the Lordship of Jesus Christ mean to you?

The present day Ministry of Jesus.

High Priest: Hebrews 3:1

Mediator: 1 Timothy 2: 5

Intercessor: Hebrews 7: 25

Advocate: 1 John 2: 1

Lord and head of the Church: Ephesians 5: 23b

Jesus is Lord over all. He holds the highest position in the universe.

Testimony of the Disciples.

Peter:
Matthew 16:16
Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God.

Thomas, Paul.
John 20: 28 Romans 1:3-4
My Lord and my God. Son of God.

John: James
John1:14 James2:1
The Word made flesh. The Lord of glory.

We have seen that Jesus has claim as Lord over our lives on two counts:
(1)His death on our behalf
(2)His authority as God our creator.
