Proclamation and Agreement
Whereas, Grand Master Donald H. Nagle, at an open meeting in August of 1987, in Knoxville, Tennessee, with his peers in rank and karate, with equal representation from the required organizations and Masters throughout the United States and Canada, having been recognized and certified, as Ju-Dan, Hanshi-Go, Soke and Master of Isshinryu Karate, and
Whereas, thus upon his passing on August 23, 1999, and in accordance with his last wishes, has deemed it proper and beneficial for all Isshinryu Karate-Ka, has designated Edward F. McGrath as Ju-Dan, Hanshi-Go, Soke and Grand Master of Isshinryu Karate, in direct ascension from Grand Master Donald H. Nagle, and
Whereas, it is known that Mr. McGrath was among the original students of Grand Master Donald H. Nagle, in the original dojo on New Bridge Street, Jacksonville, North Carolina. Further, it is known that Mr. McGrath has remained with Grand Master Donald H. Nagle from that time, a period of forty-two years, as a Sensei who performed successfully, in that role. Be it further known, that every promotional certificate, granted to Mr. McGrath, from the ranks of Go-Kyu to Ku-Dan has had signatory, Grand Master Donald H. Nagle and
Whereas, Mr. McGrath has, during that period of time, proven to hold his Master's wishes as commands and therefore, although not having requested, in any way, this position, will accede to Grand Master Donald H. Nagle's last wish and view it as his friend's last command. Therefore, and by acclamation of a representative group of his peers, will accept the honor bestowed upon him by his Sensei, Master and friend.
In so Accepting This Honor, Mr. McGrath, has sworn to ameliorate the disunity and dissension, and further, to bring understanding, trust and unity to all members of Isshinryu Karate in the matter of friendship, as was developed by the comraderie in the original dojo where our Sensei taught us the art of Isshinryu, "The One Heart Way."
PLEDGE OF COOPERATION TO REINFORCE THE SUPERIORITY OF ISSHINRYU KARATE
Therefore, on this 25th day of September, in the year 1999, the following Signatories have attested to their pledge of assistance, friendship and recognition of Grand Master Edward F. McGrath, the Soke of Isshinryu Karate, and his goals of unity for the Isshinryu organizations, strength against threats or attacks by our enemies, and cooperation in promoting Isshinryu Karate, in order to make Isshinryu the preeminent style of Karate and bring success to all of our groups and association.
