Intelligent friends
Once upon a time there was a group of intelligent young writers who belonged to a program called write stretch. Their name's were Kathleen, Kylie, George, Andrew, Heather, Nancy, Paige, Liam, Emily, Marlena, and Brandi. In the evenings they all loved to log onto their online program and chat until one day something very unusual happened.
Liam and Marlena vanished from the story, never to be heard from again.
"I wonder what ever happened to them" Kylie asked Kathleen at their year end celebration.
"Good question" Kathleen said, looking mysterious. So the two of them walked over to the rest of the writers, and they decided to start a little search party, hoping to find the two that were gone.
"Where are they?" cried Nancy after about 20 minutes. They had asked everyone they had seen, but none of the people knew. So they had no other choice. They were going to ask the teachers. They searched the room and finally spotted their teachers. Each one of them had a forlorn look on their faces and all of them were nervous and eyeing the students warily.
"Ms. Nabata?," George was already asking them. "Where are Liam and Marlena?" Nancy, Kyli and Kathleen rushed over to hear Ms. Nabata's answer. She cleared her throat and said firmly, but coldly, "We haven't seen them for weeks. Now, students, please return to your seats." George, Kyli, Nancy and Kathleen looked up at her in shock as she excused herself and left the room to talk to another teacher waiting for her outside.
"I wonder what's wrong with her," Kathleen muttered. Heather and Brandi soon walked over wearing mortified expressions. "What's wrong?," George, Nancy, Kylie and Kathleen asked in unison.
"I know what's wrong," said a kid who was picking her teeth and the likes of which the group had never seen before. "See, Your friends are the chosen ones," she answered. They looked at her in disbelief.
"For what?" The kid's eyes were molten gold, they glowed in the light from the open window.
It seemed like hours they stared at each other, then finally she said softly, "That's what you have to find out..." And with that she was gone, gone as if she never had spoke a word, as if she hadn't been there at all. She had disappeared.
Kylie stood up. "Who was that kid?"
"How are we to know?" Nancy said. "Hmm..." George said, "I know, all we really have to do, is track down that kid who told us they were the chosen ones!"
"How will that solve anything?" Kathleen asked. "We can MAKE him tell us...who was it, and how did they know? Supposedly the teachers know..."
"Doubt it..." Heather said. "Well...does anyone know them? Phone numbers, anything? And lets try and find out what salon that kid was from..."
"OK." They agreed. They went on having fun for a while, at the celebration. But, suddenly Brandi saw Marlena arrive. She walked in, trying to blend in.
There you are!' Brandi ran over to her. "What- what do you mean? I have been here all along!"
You couldn't have--we were all so worried--then why haven't you came to a lot of write stretch meetings?" Brandi said, desperate for a answer.
"um...well, I have been sick that's all." Marlena said. "
Call me crazy, but for some reason...I don't completely believe that." Brandi said.
Suddenly, Marlena's face became dark.
"Are you accusing me?" she asked loudly. Everyone in the search party looked their way.
"N-no, I just don't think that anyone could be sick that often," Brandi looked helplessly at the search party (Earlier, they had nicknamed themselves as the Great Ones).
Marlena then did a very weird thing. She started muttering nonsense words, and within seconds, Liam appeared in a jiffy. Together, they chanted a spell, and then they both vanished though the door.
The Great Ones looked at each other, knowing without any words being spoken that they were all thinking the same thing.
"What is going on?"
"May everyone please be seated at their own tables now." The speaker was Gladys Rosencrans, the person who ran the program. Without saying a word the Great Ones separated and sat down in their own seats at their own tables.
"Would the following students please make their way to the front of the room with the piece they have selected to read allowed. Andrew CCC, Brandi WJA, Heather PSD, George PGB, Katy SHY, and Melissa CGB." The students stood up and made their way to the front of the room each holding a piece of paper in their hands.
As Andrew read the latest of his 'Evil Piggies Show' a strange and frightening sound become noticeable at the back of the room. It was like nothing the Great Ones had heard before. All at once they turned around to discover that the sound was coming from Dr T's toy poodle as it made it's way down the hall behind the board room in which they all sat. As everyone sat listening to Andrew's story Nancy and Paige secretly made their way to the hall and disappeared around the corner.
It seemed that no one had noticed the sound the dog made or the two children leaving the room. Everyone sat staring at Andrew completely absorbed in his story. The Great Ones knew something was wrong. As they scanned the room looking at the faces every one the same they came across Gladys, solemn and disturbed. Her glance unlike those of the rest of the room was to the door where the two Great Ones had exited.
"Ahem. Excuse me for a moment," murmured Gladys, speaking to no one in particular. She walked in the direction that the girls had departed, and had just caught a glimpse of them when I teacher from Chalmers (Mrs. Aiken, she worked here sometimes) waled up and blocked her path.
"Where are you going? Don't you know that today and for the rest of the year that end is banished?" Mrs. Aiken looked weary and upset, as though she had just seen or heard something that she was sorry about.
"No, I didn't..... Are you okay?" asked Gladys.
"What? Oh, uh, n-yes! I mean, what do you mean? Was it something I said?" Mrs. Aiken's facial expression changed to panic.
"Uh, can I continue this with you later? Two girls just disappeared down there, and I have to see what is wrong.
Suddenly, Mrs. Aiken did the strangest thing. She walked down the hall, bought out a flashlight, and stuck in into the direction of Gladys. Then, she was gone, and it was Liam holding the flashlight.
"Liam! What are you doing here?" Gladys ran over to him.
"Don't you come near me! You have the power of good, and it might be contagious!" he looked scared.
"WHAT?" Gladys was shocked. What was going on with these young writers? The power of good??
"You head back into the board room. Did you see anyone else leave?"
"NO! No one left! Not a person! I swear! Go back to the boardroom yourself. I need to us the restroom."
Although she was unsure of it herself his sureness convinced Gladys to turn around and walk back into the board room alone. When he thought the coast was clear Liam turned and walked in the opposite direction to the bathroom. Gladys watched with confusion. 'What is going on??' she wondered to herself. Then she stood up and made her way to the hallway and down it in search of the children. As she passed the Education Room she heard voices inside. They were unmistakably those of the childrens.
"We've got you now!" The voice was quiet obviously Liams.
"There's no escaping. We'll get you all." This time is was Marlena's voice. Both the children's voices were cold and crisp and unnerving.
"EEEEEK!!!!" it was those of the two great ones, that had disappeared.
Gladys tiptoed daintily down towards them. And when she peered inside, the sight was unbearable.
There were tons of children in there, including the great ones, and they were all chained up. The two seemed confused, as did Liam and Marlena, as though they didn't know what they were doing.
"Children! What is going on??"
Then, she saw it.
In the middle of the room was an anthology book, and it was covered in mud. They kept throwing mud on it (Liam and Marlena), and every time it hit a page with one of the kid's writing on it, they yelled, and tried to break free.
"I know! These children are all people who have been very attached to their writing through the years, and these great ones are too. So, when the next anthology comes out, mud will be splattered on their work! But why are Liam and Marlena doing such a thing?" she thought.
Well, she turned to go and get some help from all the other teachers, and saw one more thing.
A big gray boom box, that had a squeaking sound coming from it.
It sounds like The Lord Of advertising for the innocent!
He was a man who put subliminal messages into music, ad it got children to do low things.
"Turn off the music!" Yelled Gladys's brain. Well, that is just what she did.
Liam and Marlena crumpled to the ground, and the mud somehow disappeared.
"Wha..... huh..... where?" Liam looked cautious.
"Now now, it is okay. But I have a question for the both of you. Where have you been at night when everyone else is chatting?" Gladys looked stern, and somewhat friendly at the same time.
"Well, er.... okay. A man had told us that if we went to his office every night, we could help his subliminal messaging thingy become famous. So we were there every night. And now, I realize it was stupid. We never should have jeopardized our chance in this class. Can we have another chance?" asked Marlena, her lower lip trembling.
"Yes, of course. Now, lets get back there and party!" Gladys cheered, and together, the three of them untied everyone, and they all went back.
And since then, Marlena and Liam have been on every night.
But the strange thing was...........
NOTHING!! everyone had a great summer, and they all met up the next year for write stretch as well.
