Kreviazuk & Our Lady Peace frontman Maida are just scratching the surface of their creative partnership

She's a top-ranked, sensitive piano-pop artist, he's the popular frontman for moody rockers Our Lady Peace. Although they share the same record and publishing company, their careers have remained quite separate. And Sony Music has played down their marriage, figuring that fans prefer their idols romantically unattached. But Kreviazuk and Maida are now coming out of the closet as Canadian music's power couple and merging their creative talents in the process. Already, they've appeared together in director David Weaver's film Century Hotel, produced a song for the animated movie Stuart Little 2 and cowritten several others for Kreviazuk's upcoming third album.
Now comes news that they've formed a company called Foundation Records and Maida is producing the début album for the label's first signing: a so-far unnamed Texas rock group*. But all of that will pale when Kreviazuk and Maida finish recording their first joint album. (A taste of what they sound like together will be heard on next month's For the Kids, an album to benefit music education, on which the couple performs a full version of the famous lullaby "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.")
Kreviazuk says she and her husband, who divide their time between a "little loveshack on the sea" in Malibu, California and an apartment in downtown Toronto, are currently recording material using a portable studio. "It's awesome working together," she enthuses. Maida, meanwhile, remains cautiously optimistic. "When I think of other couples who've done it, only Captain & Tennille and Sonny & Cher come to mind -- and they make me sick," he says. "So we're trying to be smart, take our time and make it something incredibly special."
