I don't claim to be an angel, but I feel it's necessary to share that I was in the street life at one time. We have all made mistakes and errors in our lives, however, no person should ever be convicted of a crime he or she did not commit.
My son was 4 months old when I was arrested. On November 16th of 2003, he will turn 13 years old. I missed and was deprived watching him grow, his crawls, his walks, his first tooth, first day at school, growing beside him, parenting and being the father figure for him. I can go on and on, but you still wouldn't feel my pain.
Being away from my mother, father, and siblings has caused me great pain and turmoil.
Thanksgiving, Christmas and family reunions, all these special events people take for granted and advantage of everyday. I wasn't able to celebrate or enjoy them with my family. I have not been able to witness or partake in these precious moments.
You cannot begin to feel my internal grief, sadness and pain. The individual who set me up and lied on me, Theodore Roulette, happened to see me out and about, and probably heard people speak of me and about me. He knew I hung out where this unsolved crime occurred and took place. On October 16th, 1989, Wayne Price was shot and killed. On March 22nd, 1990, I was arrested and locked up for a crime, which I DID NOT, commit.
Can you remember where you were FIVE months ago at 3:00 a.m., unless it was a major event? I know I didn't kill Wayne Price. I could have been at home, deep asleep or at a club. Theodore Roulette is on parole, and he just served 8 years. On March 21st, 1990, he was arrested for 3 new felonies and was only placed in a city jail. The victim's brother was employed for the city jail on that date, and is an acquaintance of Theodore Roulette. He shared with Roulette that his brother was shot and killed
Wayne Price's wife, Renee Germany, was sitting in a car and heard the gunshots. She then heard Wayne's voice say "I'm hit, you didn't have to shoot me again." She got out of her car and saw an unknown man over Wayne with a gun, who then turned around and ran.
Mrs. Germany proceeded to help her husband into her car and drove him to the hospital. She stated that he told her, "Some silly, young nigger shot me," and he later-died.
Later, she related to the victim's brother the time, location, and information of what took place that night but she didn't know who shot Wayne. The brother shared all the information with Theodore Roulette, who at that time was situated in his jail cell.
Theodore Roulette knew LAJay (myself), who illegally sold drugs in that area, and assumed that the authorities would love to get LAJay. He told the victim's brother that I was there, and said he saw who killed Wayne. Roulette told the victim's brother to get the detectives, while Roulette obtained information from the victim's brother, and placed me, himself and two other women at the crime scene. This was March 22nd 1990, when my worst nightmare begun.
A statement that was given by a proven junkie, drug user and unreliable source. I was arrested and charged with a crime I did not commit.
Theodore Roulette's testimony at trial was:
He went to the projects that night to obtain some syringes from a diabetic by the name of Sandra. He stated he obtained the syringes from her and her roommate Mary, who allegedly were present and witnessed me shoot Wayne Price. The prosecutors, the detectives and my attorney, never contacted Sandra or Mary to verify if they saw Roulette that night, or witness Wayne Price's murder.
In May of 2000, someone contacted Mary and Sandra, and both stated that Roulette was prohibited in their residence, and they would never give him syringes. Furthermore, they stated that they didn't witness LAJay shoot Wayne Price, and would appear in court to give their statements. It is now that I know why those two women were never located or called to testify.
When I was arrested, I was placed on the news and in the newspapers. The media headline read "Alleged drug dealer arrested for murder." Charles Paxton saw me on television and read the newspaper and I arrived in his unit. When my charges were posted, they came with the victim's name and a few other details.
I never confided or confessed to killing Wayne Price because he owed me money or drugs, and was bad mouthing me. Everyone forgot Renee Germany's (Wayne's wife) testimony as stating Wayne told her "some silly, young nigger shot me." My name, LAJay, is well-known. Why didn't he mention or say my name loud and clear before he died? As you can read in the 1996 case, it was overturned, and I didn't have any means or money to retain my attorney.
I had no money, so he dropped me. I have no attorney to represent my case so my voice cannot be heard. No one is there to continue to fight for my rights. I would like a pro-bono attorney and raise and create a defense fund, so that I am able to hire one.
I require a private investigator to locate Sandra and Mary as the new key witnesses. Otherwise, a motion is to be filed with the Federal Court. This motion is mandatory and will exploit how the court withheld exculpatory and critical evidence in my case.
I have taken the time and have researched the law. If a person is proven not guilty or wrongfully convicted, the state MUST compensate them with $25,000 for each year of wrong incarceration, within 90 days of being proven innocent. That does not include further and optional civil suits. No amount of money, will or can compensate the loss, pain, anguish, youth, livelihood, and robbery of my life. This was done intentionally, with malice, and was NOT a mistake or error.
In God we trust and God is my strength and leading light. I am innocent!!
