JANA KING EVANS is our vocalist. She's the whole package ... beauty, talent, and great personality. She has spent many years on television on TNN (The Nashville Network) as lead background vocalist and vocal arranger on the Ralph Emery show... “Nashville Now” and on the Crooke and Chase show... “Music City Tonight”. She has sung and arranged vocals on 100's of hit recordings with artists such as Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Lorrie Morgan, B. J. Thomas, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Ronnie Milsap, Glen Campbell, Randy Travis, Pam Tillis, Mark Chestnutt, John Anderson....and the list goes on. She is also nationally recognized for her many commercials (or “Jingles”) that she has sung on, such as “And like a Good Neighbor...State Farm is There”), "You're in Good Hands... with Allstate", “Heartbeat of America...Today’s Chevrolet”, “Oh I’d love to be an Oscar Meyer Weiner”, “Toyota”, “Budweiser Beer”, "McDonalds",
etc. Jana resides in Branson, Missouri and continues in her professional endeavors with Branson and Nashville musical stars.
ROD GETER, MD, Plastic Surgery is the keyboard player, President of the band, and a charter member.
DON OVEREND, MD, Pediatrician is our lead tenor sax. When we started, his saxophone had been in a closet for 40 years. His wife didn't even know that he played. For our first few practices, he had to frequently stop and oil the key-springs on his sax. His sound is really mellow.
JOHN MEYER, MD, Pediatrician is our lead alto sax. He played at the University of Illinois. John purchases challenging music for the band at his own expense.
STEVE BENTON, PhD, is our second tenor sax. He was the chief administrator for Smith-Glynn-Callaway Clinic when the band started. He is our business manager and secretary of the band.
FRANK CORRY, MD, General Surgeon is our second alto sax. Frank is a pilot. He has barely made it on time to some of the events, coming directly from the airport. He is a real gentleman and adds class to the band.
RALPH HASTY, baritone saxophone, is a graduate of the U.S. Navy School of Music and served with Rear Admiral Ralph Clark's Chief of Naval Air Operations band in Corpus Christi, Texas. He also played with various bands around Springfield, including the late Forrest Wasson. He's a retired broadcaster having worked as an announcer in both radio and television in New York, San Francisco, Seattle and in Springfield.
Most of the members of the sax section are charter members of the band.
Trombones:
JIM SAMMON, MD, Pediatrician is another charter member of the band. We can always depend on him to take a solo. His enthusiasm for music and his effort to continue to learn and improve is an inspiration to the rest of us.
KEN BASS, Ken was a former member of the Springfield Symphony and band director, has a Masters Degree in Trombone from Pittsburg State University. He currently acts as the assistant director of Caduceus.
CRAIG WAMSLEY, MD, Family Practice joined us over a year ago. He received one of our CDs at St. John's Christmas Party, and wanted to participate. He has been another nice surprise.
ROBERT HENDRICKSON,CLU,ChFC, is a bass trombone player. He is a former band director and professional musician and is currently a Partner with New York Life.
TOM G. WEBER, CPA, “Played trombone in the jazz band’s at Missouri State University during his undergraduate program. He is currently a CPA with Kirkpatrick, Phillips & Miller CPAs specializing in audit and tax engagements.”
Trumpets:
MIKE WOOTEN, MD, is a charter member. He recently retired from GI Medicine. He can now spend more time with work on his orchards and with his music. Mike's not afraid to take chances, and it's fun to watch him attack a solo.
BEN LAMPERT, MD, Anesthesiology is a fearless soloist. He is early to every event to help set up the band. He has been with the band for 6 years.
TOM MOFFE, MD, General Surgery is very busy with his profession, but he somehow finds time for the band. You can easily spot him in the group with his new trumpet. Tom is a charter member.
CARL YENDES, is the Assistant City Attorney in Springfield. He heard us play and asked if we would accept an attorney in the band. He's been with us for 2 years.
The trumpet section is strong, and the 4-part harmony in many of the big band arrangements is impressive.
Rhythm section:
CHARLIE ASH, MD, Orthopedic Surgery is our keyboard bass player. He played piano semi-professionally for years. He's dedicated and dependable, and is a very talented musician. He's also a charter member.
BILL HENNESSEY, MHA, is our drummer. He is a Vice President in administration at St. John's Health System . Bill played in bands at Notre Dame, and he does a great job of driving this one. Bill is the treasurer of Caduceus.
STAN SHAW, is our guitar player. Stan, a retired chemical engineer, played with St. Louis' Gateway City Big Band for thirty years. He also put in a four year stint with St. Louis' Original Knights Of Swing. He performed with the Shades Of Swing in Branson, Missouri for ten years, where he was known for his scat singing. Stan, who grew up in New York when big bands were king, says he is thrilled playing with such a group of talented musicians.
