MY REVIEW OF SANDBRIDGE BEACH , VIRGINIA.
Oh, To Be In Sandbridge Beach , Virginia !!
We discovered Sandbridge Beach by accident some 10 years ago while vacationing in the hotel resort area which is about 30 minutes away.
Needless to say, we have been vacationing in Sandbridge almost every year since. The vacation homes that we have rented were exceptional, the beaches clean and not crowded, a daily display of dolphins out your window and great sunrises and sunsets are almost promised.
If you like military aviation, you'll have a chance to see some of the U.S. Navy's finest fly over as Oceana NAS is about 12 miles away in a direct line.
With the exception of a few condo buildings constructed over the past couple years, Sandbridge remains a nice residential community composed of year round residents and vacationers. Not too much hustle and bustle here, you'll have to go into town for that.
At last count there were 2 bars and restaurants right in Sandbridge . Other bar and restaurants are within a 10 to 15 minute drive down Sandbridge Road. A gift shop here or there and the neighborhood market should meet all your needs. For more food needs and shopping, there are other choices in centers only 10 minutes away off of Sandbridge Road and General Booth Blvd.
SANDBRIDGE STORES AND THOSE NEARBY
The Little Island City Park,Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park all at the south end of the island provide a great time for all.
Going to Williamsburg is about an hour and half hours drive away and Norfolk about 40 minutes away. The Sandbridge area also offers a nice water park 25 minutes away and The Virginia Beach Marine Science Museum and Aquarium is also 25 minutes away,both are located off of General Booth Blvd. Be prepared for almost a full day at either one.
Dolphins are many off the coast of Sandbridge. They can be viewed jumping out of the water at any given moment.
In our many trips to Sandbridge we have witnessed some unusual events. For one , a Manta Ray gliding back and forth only 4 to 5 feet off the beach which attracted a large crowd. Another year we had the misfortune to see a dead Fin Whale which washed up onshore.
I can recommend the Sandbridge Market for all your food needs.

Enjoy a ride around Sandbridge in your car or on bikes to see all the interesting types of construction done to personal tastes on the many homes.
The fishing pier at the southend of Sandbridge also offers one of the most interesting views on all the different types of fish being caught by people fishing. You'd be suprised at all the different species of fish off the shore .
