The Paxton Cemetery is a private burying ground which was inluded in the Virginia Historical Inventory compiled by the W.P.A. ca 1937.
James W. McClung, who visited the cemetery and wrote the W.P.A. report, described it as ". . . a private burying ground, fenced in, steps leading to it from the road. The owner sends a colored man, several times a year to clean off the plot."Location: Between Tinkersville & Buena Vista, Rockbridge Co. Virginia.

James Paxton - supporter of Oliver Cromwell - fled to Northern Ireland upon the restoration of King Charles II.
John Paxton was born 1692 in Counrty Antrim, Ireland and died 1745, probably in PA He married Elizabeth Alexander, born probably in Ireland and died 1756 in Augusta County, VA Elizabeth's tombstone at the Paxton Cemetery list her dates as 1694 - 1756. They moved from Scotland and resided in Adams Co. (Lancaster Co.) PA. When Elizabeth was widowed she taken her sons, Joseph, Samuel, William, Thomas and John to Augusta County where she purchased land from the Borders.Samuel Paxton was born 1750 and died 1756 in Augusta County, VA. He married Mary Moore, daughter og James Moore and Jane Walker. Mary was a granddaughter of John Walker and Katherine Rutherford of Wigton, Scotland. (See the John Walker link below).
Among Samuel Paxton and Mary Moore's children was Hugh Paxton, who married Julian Moore in Rockbridge County, Va on May 04, 1789. (See the Hugh Paxton & Julian Moore link below)
