Nutters
Not a great picture, but focus on the vans with Japanese flags sticking out of the back. I heard the noise first, about a hundred decibels of patriotic song blaring out. These guys are infamous, but as I'm rarely in the centre of Tokyo, I've not had the displeasure of seeing them before. They're notorious right-wing nutters who advocate the expulsion of all foreigners from Japan, attack Chinese and Korean ethnic grops, and are rumoured to act as personal body guards to right-wing politicians. Its a pity more can't be done to supress this kind of sick triumphalism.
This is Yasukuni Dori in Shinjuku, which is surely the route to the Yasukuni Shrine of ill repute. Not so long ago, a number of Grade A war criminals were dug up and buied alongside regular war dead at this the country's principle war memorial. There've been huge outcries from foreign groups and other Asian countries affected by Japan's War Crimes, especially as the Prime Minister likes to drop by and pay homage here a couple of times a year. Moreover, despite being ruled unconstitutional by a JAPANESE court, Koizumi defends his actions robustly by claiming it "feels natural"!! Yeah, nice one, ye of the ridiculous hair.
