Kotatsu


They've got global positioning on their mobile phones, yet when it comes to heating their own homes...they use a KEROSENE heater and a KOTATSU.

The kerosene heater is one thing. When I think of kerosene, I think of a log cabin, fur trapping and seal clubbing, not hyper-modern Tokyo suburbs!

The kotatsu is just strange, but very comforting. It's an electric heater on the flip side of the table; the heat gets trapped under the blankets, and then you crawl under and remain motionless for three months until the cherry blossoms arrive!!

Oh for central heating!
(PS I didn't have anything to do with the colour or pattern choices! You can blame Yamaguchi for that.)
