Brutal Hack Job

This is the "French Formal Garden", clearly not at the best time of year. One of the saddest aspects of daily life in Japan is seeing tree lined avenues in which the trees have been reduced to stumps; it can be seen everywhere, including my home town.

I pitched a question to my English Conversation Class "Why is it that trees are reduced to nothing, whilst plastic representaions of their foliage are pasted to concrete buildings in towns and cities?"

Answers ranged from "People don't like leaves falling on their driveways" to "It's pretty like that".
Well, judge for yourselves, but as far as I'm concerned, you'll be hard pressed to find a country where nature is as repressed (and loathed?) as in Japan.

Yours,
Captain Planet
