Club Hondumex was founded on June, 2000 by a group of female, soccer fans who regularly met at Vancortland Park in the Bronx. Inspired by their love of the game, this group of Honduran and Mexican women shared their desire to play on a team. At first they were discouraged by the absence of opportunities for women like themeselves to join a team. There were very few female teams in the area, and their age and membership requirements, made it difficult to join. After being turned away several times, they decided to form their own team and take advantage of a special event that was being sponsored for the first time by the International Soccer League, a sub commitee of the " Desfile de la Hispanidad." The purpose of the event was to increase the representation of latin american women in the field of sports. The "International Soccer League" provided the team's first opportunity to compete against other teams. A women's league of this kind was the first to ever be sponsored in NYC. In the begining, the team's members were either of Honduran or Mexican descent, however the membership later diversified and now it consists of participants from several latin american countries including: Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador, Italy, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Chile, Trinidad y Tobago, United States join us. In 2005 Club Deportivo Hondumex founded the men division team and for their first time they played in Van Courtland Park. Their first championship was the "Copa De La Raza" successfully till this day the Hondumex mens team is still active and playing in different leagues aroud the tri state area. Besides their love for soccer, the team members also share their love for music, dancing and latin. everything.
