There are two main categories of people who eat gluten free foods as a lifestyle. One, is people who have Celiac disease. They have to eat these special diets or risk their health because they have an intolerance to the protein and even the tiniest amount can make them sick. Other people go on this type of diet in order to be healthier and aid in weight loss. Regardless of why people start on this diet, it can be difficult to get in the habit.
A good gluten free cookbook can help get you started with this specialized cooking or expand the knowledge you already have. Gluten free cookbooks like Paleo Cookbook can not only teach you what foods you should avoid, and what foods are okay but it gives you a great supply of recipes. Anything and everything from soup to dessert can be found in this type of recipe.
Starting the diet is the most difficult part. This is because of the research involved with starting this diet. Gluten is found in so many of the foods we eat, and there are definitely more foods that contain this protein than there are foods that are free from it. Wheat, barley, and rye, as well as any ingredient that includes one of those three needs to be avoided if you are starting on the diet.
Approximately one in every one hundred and fifty people is affected with celiac disease, and numerous others want the diet for health or weight loss reasons. The food industry is not doing a very good job keeping up with the demand, so going starting a diet with the use of special recipes is the best way to guarantee that all of your food is safe.

Celiac disease is the reason that the gluten free diet exists. This is because people with celiac disease have an intolerance to this protein, and it harms the small intestine in these people by causing them to release antibodies that attack the small intestine. In an age where weight loss diets are quite prevalent, the gluten free diet has been adopted as being a diet that can help you lose weight in a healthy way. Recipes specifically for those with an intolerance not only help people with celiac disease heal their small intestine and stay healthy, but they can also help you lose excess weight.
The recipes for these diets leave out any ingredients that are derived from wheat, rye, and barley. Since these three things are quite common in a lot of everyday foods, it can be difficult to find ready made foods that are totally gluten free. With cookbooks such as Paleo Cookbook, people are finding it easier to make meals for this special diet themselves. Knowing what to look for, and what to avoid completely can mean the difference between a good day and a bad day for people with celiac disease. With easy to use cookbooks such as these, gluten free living can be a possibility for everyone.
You can make a delicious treat by taking one cored granny smith apple, one tablespoon of brown sugar, and a quarter teaspoon of ground cinnamon. You fill the core of the apple with the brown sugar and cinnamon and wrap it in a large piece of foil. Place it in the oven, or on a barbecue until the apple softens. Unwrap and enjoy, but be careful of the hot sugar.
This type of diet will allow you to continue eating a lot of the foods you love. Fruits, veggies, dairy products, eggs, unprocessed meat, certified gluten free pastas, rice based crackers or bread, condiments, snacks such as plain chocolate and corn chips, coffee, tea, and so on can all be eaten in this type of diet. The foods you need to avoid are pasta, breads, crackers, pizza, and anything else which contains gluten based ingredients.
Being aware of which foods are okay to eat, and which foods to avoid is the key in both starting and maintaining any type of diet. You can lose weight, and be healthier overall.

Vintage cook books are are generally very old. These are the same cookbooks that our mothers and our grandmothers kept by their side while making those delicious home cooked dinners for us each day. It isn't a wonder why children and grandchildren feel so honored when they are able to receive one of these prized possessions. To think how much time our mothers and grandmothers spent with these vintage cook books can bring back great memories.
Even for those who may receive classic cookbooks that aren't family heirlooms, they are still very valuable possessions. Not necessarily in a monetary sense, but valuable in the fact that they have recipes that are sometimes forgotten throughout the years. This very fact is what makes vintage cook books a frequently sought out item by cooking enthusiasts.
FORGOTTEN TREASURES
There are various vintage cook books that were created around specific time periods. For example: There are cook books that were written around World War II and they make mention of the fact that the recipes inside are recipes created during wartime when some household supplies were scarce. These are frequently referred to as "wartime editions." The recipes may reflect this such as saying lines such as, "for delicious wartime meals." It can make it sound like wartime was a celebration, when in reality the cookbooks were developed to help those with loved ones at war to care for their families with limited resources.
VINTAGE COOK BOOKS TODAY
Think about the fact that 65% of adults in America are overweight. This wasn't the case when our loved ones were making meals from these cook books. Why is that? Well, that's because a lot of the fattening ingredients used now were not used so much then. Furthermore, fast food was not available at every corner, so a home cooked meal was a necessity. Either way you look at it, you can get a taste of grandma's favorite dish and eat healthier - the way your family ate decades or even centuries before.
If you simply like to collect vintage cook books, then you are in luck. The internet is full of them. You never know, you might come across one that belonged to your family in the past. It is utterly amazing the type of family heirlooms that are found, and what sorts of new treasures you can turn into heirlooms of your own. Before you know it, you'll have vintage cook books that you can pass down to your own family members to continue the tradition of family homestyle cooking into the future.

Life has no guarantees. We have no assurance how long we will be here, nor do we know long our parents will be around to ask, "How do I make?" I strongly suggest that to keep the family traditions and holiday recipes that you ask for them now. Time keeps ticking and when you want to create that family cookbook you may not be able to create one.
While watching this years Super Bowl I was reminded of what many of my clients tell me often and why they are doing the family cookbooks. Sadly they start right after a loved one has passed and then they realize they have already waited too long. Loving family members whose stories and recipes belong in the family cookbook are no longer here and there is no way to make up for that loss.
Larry Fitzgerald Jr., Arizona Cardinal wide receiver, was upset with himself since he had not called his mother before she died. She was gone before he knew it and it had been tearing him apart. He is no different then most of us. We think our parents are going to be around forever. We are very surprised when they are not. It might be this sadness that makes him a better athlete and a super star. Most of us have no skills or talents in athletics to soar so we are left with just a bit of emptiness.
I am not sure whether Larry is not planning to do a family cookbook but I use his loss as a demonstration how we do not have control. That old phrase "do not put off today what you can do since you never know what tomorrow brings" is perfect for that same sentiment.
Many people realize the absence of the loved one when they try to recreate a favorite dish of their youth. Now that person is gone and there is no one left to ask: "How do I make that?" That dish remains as only a memory, never to be cooked that same way again.
The Internet has left us with a plethora of recipes. It is not the lack of recipes but the recipes of our favorite dishes made by some of our favorite people. Most of us have hundreds of cookbooks that contain ever dish known to mankind. What we miss are the smells of our memories and the tastes of our youth.
These dishes maybe simple. It can be as easy as a tuna fish salad sandwich or even a simple cookie recipe. It might be a meatloaf recipe or a rich hot chocolate with whipped cream. Only one person knows that recipe and we need to have them document it now before we forget since they will not be here forever.
Our solution, do not wait. Start your family cookbook now. Start your family history projects now. It is never too early to start and there could be a time when it is too late. I think we would all prefer the former than the latter.
If it is your mother's, grandmother's, father's or grandfather's recipe, let them know what you are planning and know what you want. List the dishes for which you want the recipes. Once you are given the recipes, read them to make sure you understand all the directions. Putting them in a drawer for 10 years discovering then you do not understand a part is as bad as not getting the recipes at all.
The best part of this project is by asking for the recipe while your love ones are well and healthy is that you are really honoring them. It is a special gift that you give them and they are here to enjoy that honor. They know that you're using their recipes to create a cookbook and those recipes will here for a long time to come. Those recipes can and will handed downed for many generations. They will be able to see their recipes when you publish your own cookbook and they lovingly will approve of all your hard work. It does not get any better than this. You will have created an heirloom. You will be creating magic and everyone may be around to enjoy that magic. Don't put that power off and do it now.
