Helpful information for Small Claims Court
There is so much to read with regard to filing a claim in small claims court, so the following has been provided as a helpful page of some of the basic concepts. Many people have not had the opportunity to visit small claims court and overlook some of the preliminary steps.
This was put together in the spirit of the State of California. Remember that the exact rules in filing a claim can vary from state to state. For example, in some states the minimum age is 18 in others 19. Another example, if you file a claim and lose in the state of California, that is the end of it, the case is closed. In other states the plantiff can file for a second hearing. Yes, I know it is very frustrating. But the bottom line is, it is your money...the more you know about the legal system the better chance you have of collecting your damages.
