Study on Wives of Diabetics
Study on Coping Strategies of Wives of Type I Diabetics
Hello everyone.
Helping clients and their families cope with chronic illness is an important function for both mental health professionals (e.g., social workers, psychologists, family therapists, etc.), and physicians. Given the dramatic increase in persons diagnosed with diabetes and the anticipated rise in coming years, it is necessary to begin to understand the needs of not only individuals living with this debilitating illness, but also their spouses, who in many cases are their primary sources of support. Obtaining information from spouses of diabetics is an important step in understanding how non-diabetic spouses are coping with their partners’ illness and how their coping strategies relate to marital adjustment. Unfortunately, there is a paucity of psychosocial research in the area of diabetes. Specifically, there is very little research on how spouses (particularly wives) cope with their partners’ diabetes. Your participation is very important and greatly appreciated.
If you are a woman married to a Type I diabetic, are between the ages of 18 and 65, and are interested in taking part in this very important, confidential, on-line study, or if you are a man with Type I diabetes and think your wife might be interested, please contact me at:
