6th Grade World History

7th Grade World Geography / United States History

8th Grade United States History



Guidelines that apply to all of the grade levels:

1. Stride Program rules and regulations apply in all classes.

2. Grading Policy: Tests: 50%
Assignments / Quizzes: 40%
Participation: 10%

3. Late homework will be deducted 10% per day it is late. After the 4th day the
the assignment will be recorded as missing.

4. Notebooks are required for every class.

5. Tests will be held usually every two weeks after a chapter.

6. Current Events, Government and Civics will be stressed in every grade.

7. Extra Credit may be done to replace a low assignment / quiz grade.
All assignments must be completed in order to get extra credit.



6th Grade World History

This class covers the history of the world starting in ancient times and ending in the 21st century. The course takes us through all of the major regions of the world chronologically. Some of the highlights are the study of the Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. We take an in depth look at the Middle Eastern nations. The final focus is Western Europe highlighting the Renaissance, the growth of democracy, the Industrial Revolution, Nationalism and Imperialism. We study all of the worlds major religions, economic structures, and political systems.




7th Grade World Geography

The course begins with an introductory unit that covers basic geographical land formations, vegetation, and climates. The text looks at each nation by region and focuses on how the geography of that nation influences the religious, economic, political, and social choices of the people. We begin each unit with a map of that region and the students are tested on the nations, the capitals, bodies of water and land formations.

In the 4th quarter the 7th grade will begin American History. Units on Exploration and the American Revolution.



8th Grade United States History

The course begins with the U.S. Constitution. The three branches of government will be stressed. Civics and the role of the government will be noted throughout the year. The First Presidents, Jeffersonian and Jacksonian Democracy, Sectionalism and the Civil War will be completed in the first semester. Progressivsm, World War I, World War II, the Cold War, and the New Frontier will be highlighted in the second semester. A unit on Washington D.C. will be completed prior to the 8th grade class trip to Washington D.C. Projects, position papers, debates and research papers will be assigned throughout the course of the year.

The 8th grade class trip to Washington D.C. will be May 2 - May 7, 2009.
