Heavenly Feathers. Parrots Rescue of Alaska
WELCOME To Heavenly Feathers.
We are a rescue for all Large and small Parrots.
We provide loving and caring homes for all Parrots that are in need of a new home for all reasons.
Our Birds are out of cages and on their play gyms
except at night.
They are feed fresh fruit and veg. each day
along with rice and pasta and beans.
they have seed mixes and Zupreem pellets
at all times with fresh water.
They all get baths each day in the summeer
every,other day in the winter months.
All our birds are health checked to ensure they are healthy and remain healthy.
Meet a Few of our featherd family and hear their stories.
Maggie and Oddie Blue and Gold Macaws
Maggie is about 15 years old.
and was in poor health due to the abuse he recived at his old owners home.
When Maggie came to us he had no feathers
and had upper respitory infection.
he was placed on Baytol for 4 months then switched over Cepro.
Maggie had been placed in a dirt basement left for the summer and winter,due to his yelling.
Maggie now has full feathers and his breathing has returned to normal and is off the cepro.
Maggie's words:hello,cracker.
Maggie was housed with Oddie.
Oddie
Was paired up with Maggie
when she came to us she had a few tail feathers.
Her health was much better the Maggies
Oddie is about 12 years old and was in a pet store
free to walk around and loved everyone
for the first 8 years of her life.
she was the owners baby.
But the store closed and owner had to sell Oddie
she is starting to learn to trust people again.
Oddie's words: I love her , Pookie, apple, cracker,mag,I love you.goodbye,polly want cracker.
POOKIE
is our 7 year old macaw he came to live with us
2 years ago.
He is a real sweet heart and will go to most people.
Pookie almost lost his life after a dog attack
in Nov 2001.
was left for dead thats when I got a call asking if I would try to help him.
When I saw Pookie he was opened from the vent to the brest bone.
wide open under his wing.
I never dreamed Pookie would ever make it.
I prayed and cried each day.
everyday I would flush out, the opening under his wing and it would come out the chest area.
It was the worst thing I had ever done, But all the prayers worked and after 6 months he was on the go again.
Pookie's words:hello,cracker,robert,I love her,pretty Pookie
and he has started clucking like a chicken in the last few days.
and a few that he brought with him,
die,shutup,and a four letter word.
Harley
is our African Grey she is almost 2 years old
I have had her from the time she was 7 weeks old and the first time I had ever had to handfeed.
She is starting to talk up a storm
whistle different songs.
Harley's words:hello,Harley girl,Pookie,whatz you doing,why,scratch scratch scratch my booty,prety Harley girl,har har,and she clucks like a chicken.
whistles the taps, does the cat call,
make like a police car siren and yells in a loud voice the cops are coming the cops are coming,,
(she watches the show cops) she says wow baby in a loud voice
she wont potty in her cage.she will be 2 on Dec 8th 2003
Hailey
African Grey she is 5 months old
I have had her from the time she was 5 weeks old
I hate handfeeding babies it is just so stressful.
but we made it thru the handfeeeding.
Hailey is starting to talk all ready.
she dont talk a lot yet.
we have heard her blurt out Pretty bird,and Hello,,she is doing the cat call and saying yeah when you call her name.
Midnight
Timnah Grey,Midnite is 5 months as well
and has become Haileys best friend.
We have only had midnights about 1 month now
he is a little nippy so the old owners didn't want him any longer we are Midnights 3rd and final home.
he is a big clown he is always on the go and loves all kinds of toys and loves to eat and eat and eat.
he is not trying to talk at all and thats fine with me I love him for being him.and we are working on the nipping.
Sinor and Sinoreita
Red Lored Amazons,These are our newiest members to the family.
We know nothing about their past.except they are a proven breeding pair,who had 5 eggs two years ago.
they are so much in love she lays her head in his chest area and he preens her so soft.
they only speak spanish and I only speak english,
but we are learning to understand each other.
it took over a week before they came out of their cage to sit on top,,but once they started they don't want to go back in.
When I recived the call about these two I was told that they were out on in the open car port.
our temps have been about 40 during the day and freezing at night,the lady said she never did like them and they did not lay eggs this pass season so they were out of there!
Sinoreita never says a word but sinor has spoken a few times
sinor's words:hello,and cat call and some other words we don't know (spanish)
and he is the one that started the clucking chicken that
Pookie and Harley now do.
