WELCOME TO 'VOICES IN THE SHADOWS'

Why I Created this site:
In 1996 I left my abusive husband. Alone, broke, began the Journey with my 3 children. I then met Joanne, a women support worker. Where I began to heal from the emotional impact that I sustained for so many years by him. Two years latter, I had a new found awakening.I wanted to reach out to help others enduring domestic violence. I joined a organization that advocated in this area. I began a 10 yr Volunteer position, as a Survivor and began to help, educate, advocate, incorporate, and hold accountable: systematic policy, protocols, support, in every area that is needed and necessary ie: Courts, Police, Government, Social Sector's, Education Systems, Media, Health, Shelter's, Woman's Groups, maybe even someone like you going through this, or did. I learned allot, helped to change allot. In hoping that one day Domestic Violence will end! There is still allot of work to be done. However, each and every year, the more we do something, the closer things change to help those who are/have endure DV to heal and become safer, and free of becoming or being a Victim. I created this site because I care, that no one experience this! If in some small way, we can reach one to help one, to Save's Lives! Emotional Well-Being, Psychical Safety!
If you have anything that you would like to do in helping in this, by adding to this site information/education/experience is how we can, and is appreciated.
Please email me and I will add it.

Peace and Safety be with you Always!
"WE WILL NO LONGER WILL BE SILENCED AND BE VOICES IN THE SHADOWS"! Thank you. Kim Mallett

The following email is sent on behalf of Minister Sandra Pupatello, Minister Responsible for Woman's Issues.
Civil legal aid funding, particularly for women in domestic violence situations, is a priority for the McGuinty government. Attorney General Minister Bryant and I both publicly support the funding of civil legal aid, in particular for family law matters, in a separate cost-sharing agreement, through Justice Canada, with new federal money.Women who have experienced abuse have told us about their problems accessing legal aid for family matters. Coroners' inquests, researchers, woman's organizations and lawyers have expressed their concerns about the need for sustainable funding to expand and improve civil legal aid services in Ontario. Our government is taking a proactive approach in providing funding to Legal Aid Ontario, for the training of front-line legal aid service providers across Ontario to better respond to domestic violence clients. However, the demands and complexities of legal aid in cases of domestic violence require significant additional resources.Attorney General Michael Bryant and I have met with Minister Cotler, the federal Minister of Justice, to discuss our shared concerns about the need for civil legal aid funding. Most recently, at the Federal Provincial Territorial meeting of Justice Ministers in Whitehorse, NWT, a resolution called on the federal government to significantly commit to new funding for civil legal aid. Together with his provincial and territorial Justice colleagues, Minister Cotler agreed to work together on the development of a national legal aid framework. Minister Cotler also indicated that he will continue to pursue and promote a comprehensive and sustainable approach to legal aid and access to justice at the federal level.I welcome Minister Cotler's commitment to seek funding in the next federal budget for a new sustainable and comprehensive national civil legal aid program. I ask for your help in writing to Minister Ralph Goodale in support of such a program.Minister Goodale may be contacted at:
The Honorable Ralph Goodale Minister of Finance Finance Canada
Minister's Office - House of Commons 195 Wellington Street Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A6
With your help, we may be able to achieve adequate funding for civil legal aid.Sincerely, Sandra Pupatello Minister
