Situated on a private .6 acre above the Charleston Harbor on the way to South Slough Estuary and preserve is this wonderfully restored mini estate. Walking distance to the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology at Charleston Harbor and all of the quaint shops and restaurants as well, this impeccable home offers an unusual park-like setting. It is a quarter mile from the Charleston drawbridge and equally as close to Coast Guard Beach and the Charleston Boat Basin. Sunset Bay and Bastendorff Beaches are a mere 2 miles further and there are many miles of estuary and preserve for kayaking, fishing and site seeing. It takes approximately 15 minutes to get into downtown Coos Bay and to the Bay Area Hospital and approximately 25 minutes to get to Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. The Charleston Harbor Boat Basin offers full-service slips with complete hook-ups at unbelievably low prices and there are coin operated clean showers and laundry facilities at the harbor for cleaning up from your fishing trips before coming home. There are even crab cooking facilities right there at the harbor for taking care of the catch, and several charter fishing boats run from the boat basin regularly. Whether you are in need of a long term rental while feeling out the region before choosing your retirement location, or working as a visiting professor or healthcare worker, this home will serve you well as you settle quietly into life on the Oregon Coast.
The home boasts 4 bedrooms, mahogany pergo floors throughout, built-ins,nooks and crannies and views out into wonderful lush vegeatation from every room. Cozy up with a good book in front of the woodstove insert or snuggle into an inglenook by the propane fireplace to enjoy a quiet time at home while the rest of the family crabs down at the docks or tromps the nearby trails in exploration. An upstairs bedroom with private half bath serves well as a light, bright and airy art studio while the downstairs library or fourth bedroom serves as a writer's retreat or home office. It is a birdwatcher's delight and so much fun to look out onto the grounds from the oversized livingroom bay window as the little guys bee bop around scurrying for well placed seed. Many wonderful evenings have been spent around the masonry fire circle out back, gathering with friends over a roaring fire while listening to the clang of the bouy bells and the "art, art, art" of the sea lions in the distance. Exploring the grounds, you will find old growth redwood, rhododenrdons, hemlock, Port Orford cedar, Douglas Fir, salal, Cape Honeysuckle and wild climbing roses. There is a nice garage/shop for storing fishing gear and a chain link dog kennel run the entire length of the rear of the home, affording containment for your 4 legged friend. This home is on city services and has high speed digital computer access available in almost every room, and atleast 2 differing phone numbers available. This is a non smoking environment and pet/s only upon approval with additional pet deposit.

This home is not well suited to large motorhomes manuevering in and about the premises but has worked well for us when we live there and we have maneuvered a pick up truck, a Geo metro and a 14 foot boat with 3 point turn arounds to avoid driving on the lawn. The folks have had their motorhome to the house as well but backing back down the driveway is dangerous due to a blind curve, and no motorhomes nor any driving backwards is suitable for this location. Please head down the driveway and roll your window down to listen for any hidden traffic as you leave the driveway.
