Larbreck, Dalgoner & Lagg Connections - Page 16-A
"According to the family tree drawn up by © (Sir) Philip James Hamilton-Grierson the ancestry of the Dalgonar & Larbreck Griersons is as follows: [as transcribed by Philip John Hamilton-Grierson, February, 2006].
[1] (Sir) William Grierson, [born 1567; died January 29th, 1629] Knighted by King James VI, who owned the estates of Lag, Capenoch & Dalgonar had a son, viz.:
[2] (Sir) Robert Grierson who in turn had 13 children.
[3] The 1st son, John Grierson produced no male heirs.
[4] The 2nd son, William Grierson of BARQUAR had a son Robert Grierson who inherited the LAG estates & became the infamous - 1st Baronet [1657; died December 29th, buried in Dunscore Parish @Church Cemetery on December 31st, 1733, his grave is marked.
[5] The 3rd son, James Grierson of LARGLANGLIE also had the Dalgonar estate & is my ancestor [ancestor of Philip John Hamilton-Grierson, C.B.E.]. James Grierson of Larglanglie was therfore the uncle of Robert Grierson, 1st Baronet & was known as the (Tutor of Lag) being responsible for his upbringing (William his father having died quite young, after 6th December,, 1665).
James Grierson of Larglanglie & Dalgonar had six [6] children.
[6] The 1st son, John Grierson was a Naval Captain & died unmarried in 1721.
[7] The 2nd son, James Grierson of DALGONAR (died 1729) married AGNES
McBURNIE & had 6 children:
[8] The eldest, James of Dalgonar (died 1774) married JANET BRODIE,
[9] Their son James (died 1793) married HELEN MORRISION & is my ancestor via his 2nd son, Philip Grierson while (Professor) Philip Grierson who has just died is descended from the 1st son, James who went to Ireland.
[10] The Larbreck connection is through Thomas Grierson (died 1774) who was the 4th son of James Grierson of Dalgonar & Agnes McBurnie.
[11] He was Thomas Grierson of Larbreck & father of (Colonel) James Grierson who was killed in 1781 & of Thomas Grierson (died 1777), William Grierson (died 1826) & Robert Grierson (b 1748 died after Nov. 20th, 1820 - Alabama])."

Below is my interpretation of the Griersons of Larbreck Estate Farm, near Dumfries, Parish of Kirkpatrick-Irongrey, Scotland based on various sources, & (Col.) James Grierson's bible records, to include records sent by Philip John Hamilton-Grierson from Pitlundie:
Augusta, in Georgia [St. Pauls' Parish, Augusta, Georgia]
[1] James Grierson married to his wife, Katherine [McBurnie], May 14th, 1767, [Saint Pauls' Parish, Augusta, Georgia, North America],
[2] Their son, James Grierson, born May 9th, 1768, Augusta, Georgia.
[3] [Their son], Thomas Grierson, born November 14th, 1770, [Augusta, Georgia].
[4] [Their son], David Grierson, born January 24th, 1773, [Augusta, Georgia]; his father, (Colonel) James Grierson provided for him in his Will: "I do hereby give & devise unto my son, DAVID [GRIERSON, who died in KKD, New Abbey aged 17 years], 300 acres of swamp-land adjoining the tracts already bequeathed to him on Rocky Creek which was surveyed by WILLIAM SIMMS in the fall of the year 1770 but for which no grant has yet been got out."
[5] Their daughter, Katherine Grierson, born March 14th, 1775, [Augusta, Georgia].
[6] [Their son], George Grierson, born July 2nd, 1777, [Augusta, Georgia]; "Grierson, George - died in the home of John Milledge. 1796."
[7] Thomas Grierson, my Brother Died the 30th October, 1777, about 7 o'clock am, [aged 34 years, 2 months, 17 days].
[8] Katherine [nee McBurnie] Grierson, My dearly Beloved wife Died The 20th August, 1778 about 11 o'clock am aged to the best of my judgement 42 years, [born c1736, Dumfries].
[9] Katherine Grierson, My dearly beloved and Sweet Little daughter Died the 7th September, 1779 about half an hour past 2 o'clock in the morning. She was a pretty and most promising child ~ my future hope and constant care, [aged 4 1/2 years].
[10] James Grierson, Junior Died at Augusta, [Georgia], 10th March, 1781, [aged 12 years, 10 months, 1 day].
[11] James Grierson, Esquire, Colonel of Saint Pauls' Parish in the province of Georgia was cruelly murdered by the Rebels in Augusta on the 7th day June, 1781, two days after he surrendered in consequence of a Capitulation, [aged 40 years, 5 months, 1 day].
[12] Thomas Grierson, died at New Abbey, Kirkcudbright, Scotland, May 14th, 1798; born November 14th, 1770, [aged 27 years, 6 months].
[13] David Grierson, died at New Abbey, Kirkcudbright, Scotland, 29th August, 1790, [aged 17 years, 7 months, 5 days]; born January 24th, 1773, [Augusta, Georgia].
[14] (Colonel) James Grierson, Esquire, of Larbreck Estate & Augusta, Saint Pauls' Parish, Georgia, born January 6th, 1741, son of Thomas Grierson & Elizabeth EWART.
[15] His brother, Thomas Grierson, of Larbreck Estate & Augusta, Staint Pauls' Parish, Georgia, born August 13th, 1743; died October 30th, 1777 at about 7 o'clock am was an officer with the British Army; and son of Thomas Grierson & Elizabeth EWART.
[16] His brother, William Grierson, of Larbreck Estate & soldier in the American Revolution on the side of the British Army was born in 1746; died in Larbreck on June 4th, 1826, was portioner of Larbreck Estate, with his brother, Robert Grierson (aka Grayson) of the Hillabees, and William Grierson was the longest liver of that generation. He was the son of Thomas Grierson & Elizabeth EWART.
[17] His brother, Robert Grierson (aka Grayson) (Trader), was of Larbreck Estate, born January, 1748; died after November 20th, 1820, in Alabama. He was portioner of Larbreck Estate with his brother, William Grierson of Larbreck Estate, near Dumfries, Parish of Kirkpatrick-Irongrey, Scotland, and son of Thomas Grierson & Elizabeth EWART.
[18] Ann (nee Grierson) Hopkins, died c1796 & left a Will. She predeceased her brothers William & Robert. She was the daughter of Thomas Grierson & Elizabeth EWART.
[19] THOMAS GRIERSON, born 1709, Dumfries, Scotland; died May 8th, 1774, aged 65 years, of Larbreck Estate; married Elizabeth EWART.
[20] JOHN GRIERSON, born in America, was referred to as a "half-breed", mother was a Creek Indian. He was son of Thomas Grierson who was shot dead by Rebels and died on October 30th, 1777, 7 o'clock am. His uncle (Colonel) James Grierson of Augusta left provisions for John in his Will: "I give, bequeath and devise unto JOHN [GRIERSON], son of my LATE dear brother, THOMAS GRIERSON, the sum of one-hundred [£100.00] sterling lawful money of Georgia, aforesaid to be paid to him when he shall attain to the age of 21 and I likewise leave him to the tuition of the guardianship of those gentlemen who are appointed guardians and tutors of my own children and desire that he may be properly educated and bound out to such merchants (business as he may be best calculated, to acquire a due knowledge, etc., and pursue so soon as they may judge proper, the said bequest to be considered as a donation from me and the apparent responsibility of bringing him up."
[21] New A[bbey] January 7th, 1792, Thomas Grierson Married to his dearly beloved wife Louisa Fraser in June, 1794.
[22] Their daughter Louisa b. 6th June, 1794 Scotland New Abbey, [Kirkcudbright] Day 4th January, 1792.
[23] Thomas Grierson married to his dearly beloved wife, Louisa Fraser, daughter Louisa b. 6th June, 1794.
[24] On the 29th February, [1864] at BATH, Louisa Grierson, relict of the late JOHN LITT, Esq., & granddaughter of the late (Royalist) (Colonel) [James] Grierson, who was assassinated at Augusta, in Georgia, in 1781. [Louisa Grierson was the daughter of Thomas Grierson in Larbreck, who died at New Abbey in 1798)].
[25] GRIERSON, [Louisa] Mrs. - 23rd/Sept./1843 - At Helensburgh, on the 23d inst., Mrs Grierson of Larbreck, in the parish of Irongray. [she was the wife of Thomas Grierson who died in 1798, son of (Col.) James Grierson of Augusta, Georgia].

My dearly beloved and sweet little daughter! Died the 7th September 1779 about half an hour past 2.O'Clock in the morning -- ................She was a pretty .....and most promising child, ................my future hope, and constant care
James Grierson, Jun'r, died at Augusta 10th March 1781
(Here the penmanship changes - I'm assuming that Col. James Grierson's son Thomas did the writing on the rest of this page).
James Grierson, Reg.tl Col. of the Militia of St. Paul's Parish in the province of Georgia, was cruelly murdered by the Rebels in Augusta on the 7th day June 1781, two days after he surrendered in consequence of a capitulation.
