According to the family tree drawn up by (Sir) Philip James Hamilton-Grierson the ancestry of the Dalgonar & Larbreck Griersons is as follows:
(Sir) William Grierson knighted by King James VI, who owned Lag, Capenoch & Dalgonar had a son (Sir) Robert Grierson who in turn had 13 children. The 1st son John Grierson produced no male heirs.
The 2nd son, William Grierson of Barquar had a son Robert Grierson who inherited the Lag estates and became the infamous - 1st Baronet.
The 3rd son James Grierson of Larglanglie also had the Dalgonar estate & is my ancestor. He was therfore the uncle of Robert Grierson, 1st Baronet & was known as the Tutor of Lag being responsible for his upbringing (William his father having died quite young).
James of Larglanglie & Dalgonar had six [6] children.
The 1st son John Grierson was a Naval Captain & died unmarried in 1721.
The 2nd son James Grierson of Dalgonar (died 1729) married Agnes
Mc Burnie and had 6 children, the eldest.
James of Dalgonar (died 1774) married Janet Brodie, their son James (died 1793) married Helen Morrison and is my ancestor via his 2nd son Philip Grierson while (Professor) Philip Grierson who has just died is descended from the 1st son James who went to Ireland.
The Larbreck connection is through Thomas Grierson (died 1774) who was the 4th son of James Grierson of Dalgonar & Agnes McBurnie.
He was Thomas Grierson of Larbreck & father of (Colonel) James Grierson who was killed in June, 1781 & of Thomas Grierson (died October 30th, 1777), William Grierson (died 1826, in Scotland) & Robert Grierson (born 1748 died c1823 in North America).

[8] Katherine [nee McBurnie] My dearly Beloved Wife Died The 20th August 1778 about 11 o'clock am aged to the best of my judgement 42 years, [born c1736],
[9] Katherine My dearly beloved and Sweet little daughter Died the 7th September 1779 about half an hour past 2 o'clock in the morning. She was a pretty and most promising child - my future hope and conastant care.
[10] James Grierson, Junior Died at Augusta 10th March, 1781, [aged 12 years old],
[11] James Grierson, Esquire (Colonel) of the Militia of St. Paul's parish in the province of Georgia was cruelly murdered by the Rebels in Augusta on the 7th day June 1781 two days after he surrendered in consequence of a Capitulation, [born at Larbreck Estate Farm - son of Thomas Grierson & his wife, Elizabeth EWART - brother of Robert Grierson (aka Grayson) of the Hillabees, Thomas Grierson who was shot dead by idiots and William Grierson who went back to North Britain, lived at Larbreck Estate Farm & may have lived till 1826].
In closing this page, my earlier "Assumption" concerning Jane Pettygrew as the wife of (Colonel) James Grierson was not unfounded, but based on the evidence that we had at the time. I now amend that "Assumption" to reflect the bible records above, as Katherine is written in the family history of (Sir) Philip James Hamilton-Grierson as a nee McBurnie].
