Grace Prayer Bulletin # 65
July 18, 1999"Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people." (Exodus 33:13 KJV)
Philippines trip - Rudy Perdigon - Elder - Grace Bible Church in Escondido, California
An Elder of Grace Bible Church in Escondido, Rudy Perdigon is traveling to the Philippines. He left July 14 and plans to stay for 2 months. This trip has come up suddenly because there is a new Reformed Baptist work starting in Baguio City in which Rudy wants to be involved. Those starting the church include family members and friends. The Church is in a crucial formative stage in the life of this church, in which Rudy may be a key leader for much of the rest of his life. The church is encountering fierce opposition from Arminian Baptists who are slandering them and Rudy. Some of those opposing Rudy have been his sons in the faith and he is eager to face them with the Scriptures.
The purpose of the trip is for Rudy and Estella to determine whether it would please God for them to relocate to Baguio as soon as this Fall. We are working with Pastor Brian Ellis of the Cubao Reformed Baptist church in Manila which is serving as the mother church for the new work in Baguio. He welcomes Rudy's participation. Rudy desires to be involved in mentoring pastors from many other churches, especially in Northern Luzon. Organizing pastors' conferences (such as Grace Bible Church has sponsored the past 3 years. Rudy also desires to speak in churches and at meetings throughout the Philippines. Grace Bible Church hopes to provide some start-up expenses, plus regular support for Rudy's ministry.Steve and Naime Phillips - Going to Spain
We are still hoping to send Steve and Naime Phillips to Spain within a year. A.. Steve is in the midst of his internship at Grace Bible Church. He is proving his gifts and qualifications in the church there in Escondido,
California, USA. He is working at evangelism and outreach in the neighborhood. He and Naime will be visiting Spain in the Fall to investigate possible places for ministry. Steve will be leading our Navajo missions trip from July 17-24.Baruch Maoz - New Israeli Government
Most of our readers will be eager to know how the new government will treat the local Christian church in Israel. That remains to be seen. Barak's Government has committed itself to democratic liberties, but has yet to be tried and proven true when those liberties are threatened. The new Government has also pledged itself to opposing the increasing radicalization of Israeli society, to struggle against spreading violence
and to cultivate a society of harmony and good will. But the Orthodox are represented in Government by two strict religious parties (Shas and the National Religious Party) and is supported by a third. They may well seek to capitalize their political assets into legislation against freedoms of religion and of religious expression. However, Mr. Barak has included in the coalition agreement a clause which restricts proposed legislation on religious matters to the Government rather than to members of the coalition.
If Mr. Barak is truly committed to democratic principles, and if he is strong as he seeks to present himself, he will effectively block any such legislative proposals from parties which form the Government. Meanwhile, the church in Israel continues to grow and, pleasing God, will continue to do so in the future. The Orthodox now have to contend with a growing number of members in local Israeli churches and of day-to-day citizens who, in the goodness of God, were hardened in the struggle for freedoms under a ruthless Communist regime. They are not easily intimidated.
Indeed, the more aggressive the Orthodox become, the more determined are a growing number of individuals to insist upon their freedoms and to challenge the unpopular Orthodox stranglehold on Israeli Jewish life.
