Grace Prayer Bulletin # 83
Grace Prayer Bulletin # 83
November 20,1999
"So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from
house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,
praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the
church daily those who were being saved." (Acts 2:46-47, NKJ)
NOTE from the GERARDS (editors of the Grace Prayer Bulletin and Grace
Worldview). We have had a request to make the Grace Prayer Bulletin and
Grace World View available on Saturdays instead of Sundays (our time of
course),so various churches can share with their congregations the requests
and the country that is highlighted. The Gerard family would like to the
thank the
Lord for the opportunity that He has given us to meet wonderful ambassadors
with a GREAT GOD and be able to share their needs with others. May God
indeed receive all the GLORY. We are thankful for your giving of yourselves
to HIM.
We have some question on how to find the fire web page. The FIRE web page
an be found at http://fireweb.cjb.net/ We enjoyed the conference greatly
this week it was informative. Keep in tune for further news concerning the
Fellowship of Independent Reformed Evangelicals. The Midwest
"informational" meeting went very well this week.
We have a request from Gary and Jan Kopfstein GaryKopfstein@compuserve.com
who serve the Lord in Blackburn, England for a Calvinistic tract that deals
with the upcoming millennium (YEAR 2000). If you know of one please contact
them as they are interested in its distribution into the Blackburn area.
The Kopfstein's hope to begin services here in late December or early in
January.
From Lynne Paasch Matamoros, Tamaulipas (Mission) mpaasch@ids.org
We have had two visits to the prison since I have written you last. Please
continue to pray for this situation, as the stakes seem to continue to rise!
Last week, the only girls who were not permitted to come, were the two that
were the most outspoken about going with the Christians instead of the
Catholics, and, one other gal who, after hearing the gospel at one visit,
came up to me afterward and with great angst, asked me if I might pray for
her. When I asked her if there was something specific in her life that she
wanted me to pray for, she said that she needed "eternal forgiveness from
God". These three, were not permitted to attend. The topic last week,
was "repentance", and what was true repentance. There were about 12 that
were able to attend, including one of the guards (which is the first time
any guard has ever entered the meeting). We also had the guitar and sang
many songs unto the Lord. During which time, I knew that those three, who
were locked up, would be able to hear that praise from their cells, and I
prayed that it would be an encouragement to them. When we left, these three
were at the bars, calling to us, saying they hoped to be with us the next
week.
That meeting must have made some kind of impact (thanks be to God alone) for
when we went yesterday, hoping to find those gals released and able to meet
with us, what we found, was that the Catholic ladies had changed their
meeting to be the very same time that we were coming; and that all but one
girl, was forced to attend their meeting of prayers to Mary and the Saints.
One gal was permitted to meet with us, because she had claimed to be a
believer in Christ since the day she entered the prison. (She was one of
the three locked up last week.)
As always, God used it for good, as this gal really needed to speak with us
alone. We passed the time speaking to her about what it means to be a new
creation in Christ, and explained to her in a more fuller way, about the
grace of God, according to Ephesians 2. We had a great time of prayer with
her, and when we left, the others had returned from their meeting with the
Catholic ladies, and were calling to us from the cells - many of them crying
and wanting us to come over and talk to them - but the guards would not
permit us to speak to them. The only thing that we could do, is to wave to
them, and call out to them "God be with you"!
Grace Baptist Church - Dafydd Hughs - New Zealand d.hughes@iname.com
Grace Baptist Church desires and is continually praying that the Lord will
establish new Bible-based churches in different parts of New Zealand, as
well as throughout the world. They have been some of the Brethren relocate
to Tauranga and others have recently or will soon be moving to Wellington,
and so there is an increasing possibility that a Reformed Baptist work maybe
started there; please pray that those involved may be given wisdom and
strength from God as they consider what may be done.
Reformed Baptist Churches of New Zealand
An encouraging development in inter-church relationships among the Reformed
Baptist churches of New Zealand has been the formation of a joint site on
the Internet (http://www.rbc.org.nz). This provides a useful source of
information about the churches as well as offering a visual expression of
our essential unity.
From Chris Rehers - Slovakia
Last January Chris Rehers took over the work in Zilina, Slovakia. He is a
25 year old pastor and will face many challenges in his new position. He is
fully supported by his home Church. Chris has recently come to the
doctrines of grace through a series he preached in the gospel of John and
through reading Whitefield, Spurgeon, Piper, and MacArthur.
As Chris said, "Our ministry as a church is to proclaim the truth. I have a
burden to preach the unadulterated gospel in the midst of a church age that
has no idea what they are preaching! We also have a ministry of translating
good Christian literature into
Slovak."
Minsk, Belarus - Grace to Russia
It is encouraging to hear throughout many different nations how God is
raising up a witness for Christ. Today I spoke face to face with the director of Minsk, Belarus. From their small Church in Minsk they
will be sending out some elders in their to a town fifty miles away to plant
a church where two woman have recently come to Christ. There is also a
Pastor on the on the West side of Belarus who is a Reformed Baptist that is
preaching in five farm villages as well as holding down a full time job.
More to come on this mission soon.
Jim Hufstetler Missionary - Dominican Republic
E-Mail-jhufstetler@hotmail.com
Jim Huffstetler recently traveled to Cuba. He preached twice on
the Lord's Day and 12 hours of theological lectures on the following Monday
and Tuesday. He had quite a few problems in his travels and learned much
about traveling in Cuba. He felt the presence of the police where ever he
traveled in Cuba. The Cuban Pastor was visited by a party official and
told to stop constructing facilities for the November Pastor's Conference.
Jim was thankful as they completed the building already enough to meet the
needs of those attending the conference.
Jim has requested prayer for the 40 committed to come. Thankfully, he had
completed enough to serve the purposes for the conference! Do lift in
prayer the host Pastor, that he will not be discouraged! Pray that God will
use the conference to open many hearts to receive the things most surely
believed among us and to expand Christ's kingdom in Cuba.
