Grace Prayer Bulletin # 80

Grace Prayer Bulletin # 80
October 31,1999

"Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, "I have heard. Indeed, I will pray
to the LORD your God according to your words, and it shall be, that whatever
the LORD answers you, I will declare it to you. I will keep nothing back
from you." "
(Jeremiah 42:4, NKJ)

May all have a good Reformation today. May be reminded that in God's
Sovereignty this day, 482 years ago Martin Luther nailed his thesis to the
door in Wittenburg. May it be our heart in missions and preaching sound
theology to bring the Church consistently back the sufficient Scriptures
preaching the sufficiency of Christ. The reformation is a calling of God
that starting actually beginning with the accomplished redemption in the
work of Christ. With this heart may we go forward in th preaching of the
whole council of God effectively teaching all the truths of God in a
balanced
manner. Have good reforming Lord's Day!!!

Note: Pastor David Ellis and his wife Barbara are for the next three weeks
ministering in French to missionary conferences in Benin (a recent Grace
World View) , Burkina Faso, and Niger.

Note: In a recent trip to Malaysia Earl Blackburn of Trinity Reformed
Baptist Church in La Mirada, CA, contracted a strain of e-coli. Pray for
his complete recovery, as the doctor believe that they have it under
control.

Note: Pray for David Straub, former director of RBMS, and his family, it
appears at least from the doctors' prognosis that David's days on this earth
are very few. Pray for Susan and their sons during this time.

The elders at Kabwata Baptist Church have been exercised greatly by the need
of discipline. We are earnestly praying that none of the remaining
counseling cases will reach such a sad end. Please pray with us to that
end. We have learnt something of what Paul
meant when he said, "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed;
perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down,
but not destroyed" (2 Corinthians 4:8-9). Could it be that we have disturbed
the hornet's nest by our intense evangelistic labors as a church? No doubt,
we need to be vigilant and prayerful because the evil one has been unusually
active in our midst.
MEETINGS:We have been greatly encouraged by the zeal of the youths for
Sunday morning Bible studies as shown from the overflowing attendance. Thus
we have had to break up that group into two to keep within reasonable
numbers. We also commenced studies in Hebrews in our home groups in July.
This is such a rich book on the uniqueness of Christ. Pray that we will
truly be
enriched as a church by this study. The Heroes of the Faith Day, spent
studying the life of the pioneer missionary Dr David Livingstone, went
relatively well. We were challenged afresh concerning what it cost to bring
the gospel to this part of Africa. We have scheduled two whole-day seminars
to be held side-by-side on Saturday, November 27th for married couples and
singles. Also, around Christmas we value your prayers for an extensive
evangelical outreach.
MUSIC MINISTRY: In a bid to help solve the difficulties created when we
changed hymn books, the ministry has started learning new songs in order to
teach them to the congregation. We are grateful to those who responded to
our last prayer letter in a practical way by helping the ministry with tunes
and equipment. We trust that these will help us go a long way in improving
our congregational singing to the glory of God.
BOOK MINISTRY: The ministry has started reducing its debts with book
suppliers substantially and is in the process of ordering a new consignment
from the Banner of Truth. Praise God, the Evergreen Christian bookshop on
the church premises has finally opened.
PUBLISHING MINISTRY: The ministry has begun publishing simply produced
monographs written by Pastor Mbewe, mostly from his sermon series. Pray that
members will not only buy these for themselves but also for friends so that
the truths we are learning may reach far.
ELECTRONIC MEDIA MINISTRY: There has been very little activity in this
ministry during the period under review due to lack of funds. However, there
are plans to get Pastor Kasumo (of Bethel Baptist Church) on the air on
radio during the last quarter of the year, funds allowing.
LIBRARY MINISTRY: The Christian public library opened and has been receiving
small packets of books from the USA, which have really beefed up stocks.
Pray that this ministry will be used of God to minister to the many
Christians here who cannot source good books and tapes.
CONFERENCE MINISTRY: The ministry had a very successful Reformed Family
Conference and School of Theology with representation from 7 out of the 9
provinces in Zambia. A full, albeit brief, report is attached for your
information. Thank the Lord with us for this.
MISSIONS: John Laing Reformed Baptist Church: The church was inaugurated at
the end of May, and presently has a leadership of 3 individuals (including
the missionary pastor). The present phase is that of leadership training and
so
once a month an elder from Kabwata Baptist Church will be meeting with the
leaders there. Praise God with us for this development.
Choma Central Baptist Church: We intend to send a team of young adults there
for a prolonged period of outreach. Mr. Sunkutu, the sole elder there, has
left the town for employment in Luanshya. Our elders will be going there
once a month. The need for a pastor for that work is now more urgent than
ever before. Please pray with us to that end.
PASTOR'S TRAVELING MINISTRY: Pastor's preaching trip to the
Copperbelt went well, both in Mufulira and Ndola. He is now scheduled to be
in South Africa this month, in the USA in October and in the UK in January.
He continues to value your prayers for these preaching trips. Pray also for
his father's deteriorating health which may affect these visits
MISSION FUND: Having sourced some funding for indigenous church-planting
missionaries, we have finished preparing a missions policy paper and will
soon be circulating it to sister churches asking for men to be sponsored in
missions work. Our prayer is that we will use this avenue to send men to
start vernacular speaking Reformed Baptist Churches. We are excited about
this development. Pray that the Lord will truly guide us to the right men.
OFFICERS & STAFF:Mr. George Sitali has been ordained as an elder, bringing
the eldership to four men. In the meantime we continue to pray for two extra
deacons to fill the portfolios of deacon in charge of the treasury and one
in charge of administration. Miss Lumpuma Chitambala has been employed on
full-time basis as the pastor's office assistant. She is settling in well so
far and has added some efficiency to the church office. Thank you for your
prayer
support. Amen!

The work here continues and there is an open door here in Ba,people are open
for the Word and they will gladly receive us in to their homes. We have been
quite busy lately in visiting new contacts. The church building is completed
now and on 28th Nov we will have a dedication service for the building and
also there will be a baptism service for 6 new Christians. So we covert your
prayers. But we still owe $19,860 to pay for the driveway and it is our
desire to pay this amount before the dedication service.
Since the work is growing we have come to the conclusion that we need a
missionary to work with us for a year and it will be a great help. Please
pray that the Lord will rise up a missionary. We are praying that the Lord
will send someone from States or other place. Our family is fine.
We covert your prayers for the following needs,
a. for the new Christians
b. to pay up $19,860,
c. for a missionary to work with us,
d. that believers will be strong in faith.
