My range of skills and abilities gained through experience and courses include:-
- Co-Ordinating groups of international student visitors on behalf of International Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme
- Composing and designing new brochures and other promotional material using DTP
- Dealing with blue chip companies to launch new charity efforts.
- Fundraising from local and central Government, companies and trusts
- Negotiating rent terms for charity shops
All of this has involved much hard work, research, information, planning, prioritising, gathering and courses to familiarise myself with the details.
My wide experience of working, fundraising and community involvement should enable me to be considered for this position.
My diverse skills and experience cover a broad spectrum from writing and submitting grant-aid applications; to roles which involves scrutinising applications to ensure that they fulfill criteria and terms of reference in readiness for panels to consider; through to serving on panels/committees which determine approval or rejection of applications. One of my principal projects with the Newham Youth Trust was to establish and convert part of a former school premises to provide hostel accommodation for international youth exchange visits raising the initial £250k + and ultimately the total financial target to complete the major capital and revenue works. This was successfully operated between 1983 and 1994.

Voluntary Work:
I have been involved in many initiatives and developed my own skills and qualifications in a variety of different ways. Some of my voluntary fund raising initiatives include as both Senior Co-Ordinator of the Parish of East Ham - Night Shelter and as Parish Warden of the same Parish. This alone has demanded the needed to deal with emergencies and crisis, including of people just arriving in the UK following disasters and wars. I have been pro-actively involved with Newham Night Shelter and associated bodies for some seven years plus _ for the past three years as Senior Co-Ordinator overseeing two co-Ordinators; recruiting, mentoring and training volunteers, including producing a host of supportive material and publications, including resourcing and fundraising.
Over the years I have been involved in many initiatives and developed my own skills and qualifications in a variety of different ways. In 1983 I established Newham Youth Trust, which established a hostel for group international youth exchange visits by converting part of a former school premise. This involved raising £250,000+, liaising with statutory and voluntary youth organisations, the English/London Tourist Board + British Tourist Authority and local Councillors amongst others. Some of my voluntary fund raising initiatives include London Borough of Newham Swimming Club and Friends of St Margaret's School Barking PTA. During the 1970's & 1980's I played an active and key role in Newham Voluntary Agencies Council and Education Committee Youth Panel.
In my work with the Organisations, I have had to work both alone and as part of the team to achieve objectives. In this I had to help the group bring about a development plan dealing with a range of complex issues including, contracts of employment, designing a logo, rewriting its equal opportunities policy and ways of dealing on a face to face basis with children and staff. In terms of media as recent I have been responsible for bring together a major sponsor company and Institute of Sports Sponsorship together culminating in a special presentation event at the House of Commons attended by three Cabinet Ministers, other local and national dignatories; plus the children/young people themselves with parents, resulting in on-going support for 2000-2001. In addition, I have played a leading part in helping develop a community centre and church developments advising on fundraising, dealing with the local authority and other professional organisations. Whilst working with statutory and voluntary bodies I frequently took minutes, arranged meetings and set up computerised office systems and databases. Something I have done several times since. Also, I have extensive communication skills being able to write, collate and present information. This I had to do for who of senior individual and organisations and other bodies advising them through presentations on options open to them.
A dynamic, innovative and flexible man I am well able to adapt and change to most working environments. My experience and knowledge has given me the ability to make use of good team building skills. Able to work under pressure to deadlines in a professional and competent manner I can deal with challenges and difficulties finding solutions by, hard work, tenacity and innovation. My experience in different professional environments of private, public and voluntary sectors, including office services, IT, charity work, fundraising - keeping up to date in new technology means I can deal with a wide variety of people and situations, including writing contracts, equal opportunities policy & development plans. Some of my other interests are, cycling and walking in the country, model making, camping, water sports and being with my family.
Able to work without supervision in a multi-disciplined environment, I am a team player with a broad range of administrative, office services, project management, fundraising, IT, organisational, technical, marketing and development skills. With an experienced & proven background of developing new opportunities, report taking and dealing with people in the public, private and voluntary sectors I have much to offer. I am able to make use of all current systems. In addition, I can deal with all office-based procedures dealing with, petty cash invoicing, correspondence, stock systems and ordering/ transportation. I have supervised staff and contractors, dealt with personnel matters, procure office stationery/furniture & equipment. My skills include the ability to oversee contracts, dealing with agencies, contractors, marketing & monitoring the delivery of services to customers.
