This Web page has been designed to give a small overview of some Good Ski Resorts that myself and my mates have skiied at over the past 20 years.
I have skiied for the past 20 years and been in the industry for the past 15 years both in Australia and North America so I have skkied some good resorts and some real bad ones.
I hope our experiances can guide you to a better skiing experiance.Skiing in Australia can be a real blast if you know where to go to and what to do. Thredbo is my pick of the Australian resorts with its mountain village atmosphere and excellent facilities for both skiing and relaxing. If the weather is bad you can still visit the AIS centre and swim or play squash. Visit the Thredbo Web link above and get a better feel for the resort.
A quick summary is as folows,
Best run in good snow THE BLUFF
Best run in bad snow THE BASIN
Best run in a white out HIGH NOON
Best restraunt T-BAR ( try the steak)
Best bar SCHUSS BAR or PIANO BAR
Best accommodation LANTERN APPTSAlso if you have a spare evening get a ride down to the Cracken Back Farm for dinner, it is excellent( on the alpine way), again click above to link for more infromation.
If you are after a ski in the Australian summer months give North America a go. Depending on the exchange rate (shitty at the moment)try my favorite resort STEAMBOAT. This resort will provide you with a brilliant allround skiing experiance from the cowboy town atmosphere to the brilliant tree skiing at a run called closets and shadows.
If you do make the journey to the states get to Denver in a day and stay at the Westin Hotel downtown for the evening and rest up a bit. The views from the rooms of the mountain are great especilly woth a Flat Tyre Beer (good local brew).
Drive up the next day if you have a rental, driving in the US is easy just reverse everything and pay attention, go via Winter Park as the drive over Berthold pass is great and even have a ski in WinterPark if you can(Try Mary Jane if you like the bumps).
Once you get to Steamboat stay in the town centre, more action at night time and a ski hill in town at which you can night ski and jump off the Olympic size ski jump if you have the guts.
Click on the link above for a more detailed map and explanation of the hill but some of my favorites are under the main gondola, Rolex for bumps and and tree skiing off to the right of the resort under Mt Werner, best in a big powder dump which is most nights.
After a days skiing a coulpe of good things are the natural hot springs Strawberry Park, 10mins out of town and also try the Steamboat yacht club for a pre dinner drink, you can see all the fools on the ski jump from their.
If you have any questions on any other resorts in North America or Australia e-mail me and I will get back to you with some more details on them, we figure we have skiied at most of them over the years if not I will find someone who has and ask them for you.HAVE FUN
MATT
