Goalball is a unique team sport for the blind. It is played by 2 teams of 3 players. The Maximum number of players on a team is 6. All the players are blind-folded to enable blind, visually impaired and sighted athletes to compete together on an equal plain as well as wearing hip, knee and elbow pads. The game has two ten minute halves. The ball used (which is called a goalball), weighs 1.25 kgPicture of a goalball court. and contains noise bells. The court is almost the size of a volleyball court and has raised tape so the players can feel their way around using their hands and feet. Now, the object of the game is to roll the ball over your opponent's goal line using a bowling action. Trust me the ball is coming fast. To prevent a goal, the defenders throw themselves on the floor or slide across the floor to prevent the ball from going in the goal. As this game evolved, the skill level and tactics of the game have increased. Some throwers throughout the world have been clocked as throwing a goalball 30 to 40+ miles per hour. Men and women mind you! Some say goalball is our extreme sport.
