TDS Metrocom Is A Rip-Off
I would just like to share my views of TDS Metrocom's phone service to notify potential and existing customers of a few problems you may run in to.
A few months ago I was going to order TDS's DSL internet service but because it was going to take "4-6 weeks" to have it connected at my house I decided to call the next day and cancel the order. Well the day came when TDS told me my hook up date would be and my phone line did not work. I had to go to a neighbors house and call, about a 1/2 hour after I was put on hold I finally talked to someone who transfered me to someone else who then transfered me to another person, finally I got an answer and they said " Sorry, we somehow reconnected your order, you will be without phone service for the day while they are switching your line over from a voice line to a voice-data line" I told them I don't want the line and he tried to offer me a couple months free DSL and I rejected so he told me that I will have to have my line transfered over to a voice line again and it will be off for another day. He told me I would be credited for those days, 3 months later still no credit. Then they tell me 2 different service men from 2 different company's will be stopping by to hook up the service since they had me down for an order, I never saw the first guy but the second man showed up the next morning and I explained to him what happened and he said "Good because you are outside of the service area for DSL" Ha, all this and the ignorant person that told me I could get DSL could have prevented it all if they only knew the facts. The worst is still to come, I get my first bill and I get charged for 2 months of DSL and they tell me not to pay it, to just pay what I think I owe. SO they wouldn't even figure out my balance. Next bill arrives, along with a seperate envelope, one is a late payment notice because I didn't pay for the 2 months of DSL that they told me not to pay, the second is my bill along with a late payment charge and still no credit for my 2 days my phone service was down.
The next thing to be aware of is your local call plan, if you have a limited amount of calls. I have a limit of 200 local calls, only 2 people in the house hold should be enough. I use to have dial-up internet and would have about 275 calls a month on my bill, I use to go on the internet around 3-5 times a day so I expected a few more calls, now I have a great service called ROAD RUNNER, NO PHONE LINE NEEDED, and I get my bill and it still has around 275 calls a month on it for the past 3 months that I have had ROAD RUNNER. I asked for a print out of my monthly call log and the lady tells me that I can have one but if I order another one it will cost me $10. Wow, who would expect a phone company charging extra to find out how bad the customer is getting ripped off. You actually have to get ripped off to find out you are getting ripped off. So what am I talking about, this ripped off thing? I got my call log and it has 272 local calls on it, 125 of those calls has the voice mail number on it. Many times several times in a row and for 20-30 minutes at a time, I called TDS and a guy tells me that anytime someone calls and leaves a message you get credited with a local call. I ask him why it does not tell you that in the description of the plan and he say I am sorry for any inconvienence but you can swith to another plan if you would like but you will have to pay a fee. Go figure another fee to get out of one of their rip offs. You already pay an extra fee to have voice mail but you get charged every month even more money the more you use your voicemail. SO the person calling you will be credited for a call to their phone company and you will get credit for a local call eventhough you are not makeing a call, someone is calling you. Pretty confusing to say the least. I guess the old fashion answering machine still has a future in this household.
On top of all this garbage of a company they lock you into a 1 or 2 year contract and if you want out because their company treats you like crap, guess what, you have to pay a fee.
Well I hope this helps som people on their choice of phone companies. I has really helped me with future choices, I know I will not use TDS or SBC since they are run under the same people and same morals.
