Global Challenge 2004-2005

The Global Challenge 2004-2005, is classed as the 'World's toughest yacht race'.

We are Graham Thompson and Laura Alexander and are Crew Volunteers for the Global Challenge.

As the race suggests it is a adventure of a lifetime which takes place in September 2004 and circumnavigates the world against all the prevailing wind and tides.

The race is conducted under the Terms of the RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club)in 12 identical 72ft steel cutter rigged Yachts.

Each yacht has one professional Skipper and 17 amature crew from all walks of life. The teams and the yachts are announced in January 2004 and from there it is up the the skipper and crew to train and motivated each other to make a diffence and be competitive.

We are the first Couple that have been on a race like this from the start of the training in Sept 2001, through periodic training until the finish in June 2005.

We will also be competing yachts which will make us even more competitive.

As crew volunteers we have to raise £26,000 each for our berth fee for the race, and are in the process of gaining some personal sponsorship from local and international companies. We are also helping to raise money for our nominated charity Sail4Cancer.
