Marketing Director

If you don't think that the General Manager job is the one you want then you might want to try to be a Marketing Director. The Marketing Director of a team is another job with high status within the team and within the social community that the team is in including the sports world. As a Marketing Director you would be in charge of developing techniques for marketing their specific team, its name, and its personnel personatlity.
To be a Markeing Director, you must have skills in marketing, public relations, and advertising. You should also be creative, articulate, and ambitious, should have a detail oriented work ethic along with an aggressive attitude, and should be able to work under stress and handle many details and a variety of projects at one time. As a Marketing Director, you would be a very busy person. You would prbably want to join some associations before becoming a Marketing Director, such as the American Marketing Association (AMA), the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), Business/Professional Advertising Association (BPAA), the American Advertising Federation (AAF), and the Public Society of America (PRSA) (Feilds 34).
As a student studying for being a marketing director, you would want to shoot for an internship with a professional sports team’s marketing department. You should be prepared for a lot of clerical work within the office. A job as an assistant, or clerk in the office will help you accomplish this. Then you might want to think about volunteering to do extra projects and stay late so that the supervisor could see initiative and hard work within the individual. You should consider jobs in marketing outside of the sports industry. Some good choices are department stores, businesses, and associations. Attending workshops and seminars in marketing, promotion, public relations, and sports administration would also help the person’s resume look impressive. Salaries for a marketing director depend on many variables. This includes the image of fans, media, and the market place. There are other things to factor in such as the individuals prestige and their experience. Their earnings could range from $25,000 to $125,000.
