GI Dubber's Web Home
Hey all
welcome to my website dedicated to all things that have wheels. I am a serious car fanatic and a bicycle racer at heart. In my stable of cars I currently own a 1985 VW Cabriolet, a 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello, a 1989 BMW 750iL and a 1999 Lotus Turbo Elise(Just babysitting this one)
I am currently the proud owner of a 1985 VW Cabriolet that I bought for 50 bucks from a scrap yard a year ago. She was a water recover spending the last couple of years of years under water. She was gutted an pieced together using parts from three different cabriolets however she is not stock as I am not the type to leave well enough alone.
Mods include a p/polished head, ported intake manifold, Audi Throttle body, Big Bore Intake tube, Scirocco Air Box with the thin rimmed air horn. I also opened up the air box's lower section for that cool sounding growl when the throttle is floored. I have an autotech 270 deg solid lifter camshaft w/HD triple valve springs and an adjustable cam sprocket, new valves and guides. The cylinder head was shaved .025" for a raised compression ratio of 9.3:1. The pistons were replaced with 0.020" over sized units and new bearings throughout the engine. The exhaust is a daul outlet 6 bolt cast iron manifold with matching downpipe. I managed to pick up a lightened flywheel at the scrap yard for $50.00 US as well as an FF coded transmission for a 5th gear conversion on my close ratio 9A tranny.
She was painted a year ago with new vinyl body graphics in the rear quarters. I installed a new(er) interior as the car was a water recovery from some lake in southern Germany (insurance job). Body mods include a full Reiger body kit with Scirocco headlights. 4 wheel disc brakes are standard now on this car with 10.1" setup for the front coming very soon, I just have to find calipers that fit. The car rides on 195/45/15 Toyo Proxes mounted on 15" Team Dynamics Superlegara II's. The Proxes are good looking tires but they take awhile to heat up and stick. I have the BF Goodrich Profiler's on my 550 and I love them becasue they stick at the turn of the key and they last pretty long. If they can handle the 400+ hp of the Maranello they are more than adequate for the Cabby.
This car is my first attempt at a VW after having owned a Porsche 944 Turbo and a Ferrari 550 Maranello. Both cars proved to be excrusciatingly expensive. So a fast, cheap car is now my remedy for all problems in life.
