GET OUT Biking Group

This bike group started in the summer of 2004 doing weekly bike rides. Rides average 20 miles and include lunch stops. Please contact Linda at lindabrincat@pridesource.com for more information.

2009 TENTATIVE BIKING SCHEDULE - MOST RIDES START AT 10:00 AM!

April 19 Kensington - I-96 to Kent Lake exit meet in 1st parking lot on left, bring picnic lunch. 8-16 or 24 miles

April 26 Three Parks - on I-94 exit 192 Haggerty Rd. go south Haggerty becomes S. Metro Pkwy, dead ends in park. Meet at 1st lot on right about .9 miles, bring picnic. Up to 30 miles but can do any portion, as it's a straight shot out and back.

May 3 Affirmations Zoo Loop Ride - Meet in back of Affirmations - NEW RIDE!
We'll ride through the subdivisions of Ferndale, Huntington Woods and Royal Oak. 16 Mile flat ride, lunch at the end in local Ferndale restaurant.

May 10 Southfield to Royal Oak Ride - Meet at the Southfield civic Center 26000 Evergreen (East side of Evergreen) and we'll ride through the subs of Southfield and Royal Oak and have lunch at Pronto's. Easy flat ride. Come out and enjoy! About 17 miles

May 17 Paint Creek Trail- Meet in Rochester Municipal Park 10:00
Rochester Road North to University and take a left on University and then right on Pine into park.
We'll ride into Lake Orion have lunch and ride back and catch the cider mill on the way back.

May 24 Open

MONDAY MEMORIAL DAY! MAY 25 10 AM: Third Annual Peddle-Paddle Picnic - Paddlers Hang out with Bikers!
This will be fun, casual, and, possibly, aerobic! You can bike, eat, and kayak as much as you like ...or you could bike and eat (skip the kayaking) .. or kayak and eat (skip the biking) .. or you could be ever so casual and just join us for lunch !! This will be a fun outing scheduled so that the bikers and we kayakers can hang out together ..

Location: Stoney Creek - Winter Cove Picnic Area (the eastern edge)

Events & Times
10 AM bike or kayak -- Renters should pick up kayaks about 9:30 AM and kayak around the island (clockwise) to get to the winter cove area.
12 potluck - fruit, crackers, cheese, finger foods, stuff like that .. (but if you're grillin' rib eyes I'm so there!!) BYO-Beverage
1 pm or anytime after picnic: bike or kayak.

Other Info: Helmets and PFDs are required. Day or annual metropark pass required. Inexpensive kayak rentals are available.. renters will need to paddle over to the picnic area to meet up with all the other paddlers. (Cheap like 4.00 an hour and it includes PFD of the highest quality).

June 7 Motor City Pride


June 14 Grosse Isle Island Ride - Grosse Isle From I-75 take exit 32 & go east on West road into Trenton. Then right on w Jefferson and left to cross onto island. After crossing bridge turn left on Meridian and right on Grays. The High School is at the end of Grays. We will be meeting at Grosse Isle High School.
After the ride, we will be having lunch at Bishop's Cottage a restaurant so lovely we just had to ride Grosse Isle once more this year!
We ride the perimeter of the island as much as possible. A flat 16 mile ride.

July 12 Harsen's Island Ride - VOTED BEST RIDE OF 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and tied with Grosse Isle for 2008! Algonac- meet in Grocery Store parking lot 2600 Pointe
Tremble. It's a drive, but worth it. We'll take the ferry to the island and
have lunch overlooking the river. Please mapquest! 18 mile ride to point & back

Aug 16 Polly Ann Trail Oxford - Rail to Trail ride
75 North to till you reach Lapeer or M-24 Keep heading north into town. You'll cross Burdick St in the middle of downtown. Take the next right which will be East St. Take your next right into the parking lot as soon as you turn the corner. Will have lunch after the ride in one of the great restaurants in Oxford.

Aug 23 Two Lakes Ride -PLEASE RSVP FOR THIS ONE! Meet on E Lake Drive, Novi We will ride on a bike path around Walled Lake and then over to Wolverine Lake and wind up back where we started for a BBQ over looking Walled Lake. Bring a cooler with what you want to drink and I will supply the rest. This is a short mostly flat ride, about 14 miles Call me for address!!!

SATURDAY SEPT 12. The 3rd annual Watermelon Water Wheel Waddle - KENSINGTON I-96 to Kent Lake exit meet at the Boat Launch Area (look for rainbow flag)
We will picnic by the boat rental area. Brings fruit, cheese, and crackers, easy things to share that won't go bad in heat!

TOUR DE TROIT
Start: Detroit - Roosevelt Park, 2200 Michigan Ave.
Distance: 40 Miles Fee: $25, $15 for students; DOE
Tour the Motor City on two wheels! The 8th Annual Tour de Troit will proceed at a pace of approximately 12 mph. The ride is accompanied by Detroit Police. The tour raises money for on-going maintenance of the planned Corktown-Mexicantown Greenlink and works to promote cycling in Detroit. The ride is supported by a SAG.

Sept 27 Clinton River Trail/Macomb Orchard-There's a large ice rink on Dequindre near 24 mile and they don't care if you park near the trail. People do it all the time. Directions: Take the Dequindre Exit from M59 and go north. The ice rink is on the left side and I think it's just before 24 mile. There's a nice trail map at most intersections and benches to sit on. This will be about a 20 mile ride and include cider mill and lunch stop.

From Route 2 East exit onto Route 53 North / Catawba Is. - the Lake Erie Islands. Follow Route 53 North to the end.
From the Ohio Turnpike - Heading East, take Exit 91(Route 53), follow North to Route 2 East then exit onto Route 53 North / Catawba Is. - the Lake Erie Islands. Follow Route 53 North to the end.
