CLICK ON THE GALLERY LINK AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE PAGE FOR REFERENCE IMAGES OF WW2 GERMAN ISSUE TIMEPIECES (GERMAN TEXT IS BELOW AS WELL)...this is a web page showing images of world war two german issue watches(dienstuhr heer,deutsches heer)when translated it means:army service watch.. what you will see in the galleries are mostly examples of DH,D,DU,and maybe a K.M. or two...i have added 2 new galleries of fliegeruhren (pilot watches) and beobachtungsuhren (navigational watches)...this website is by no means meant to be an exhaustive piece(there are still many unanswered questions regarding german military watches) at the end of the war countless records were destroyed ,so there is little empirical data to go on...it is merely a reference or jumping off point to those who are interested in collecting ww2 german issue wristwatches.. these watches were very hard to find before the advent of the internet..now you can almost always find nice examples quite reasonably priced on ebay every week..for a more intensive look,i would suggest buying konrad knirim's book "military timepieces 150 years watches and clocks of german forces "..........it is believed that the germans coded thier watches on the back by denoting 'DH'for army (wehrmacht),"D" for luftwaffe...and "K.M." for the german navy (kriegsmarine)...there are also watches floating around with a "DU" which is believed to be for reich service(LABOUR) organizations...i have however seen in various publications, pictures of luftwaffe soldbuchs(soldiers issue book) that have "DH" entries...as well as evidence that "D" watches were issued to navy personnel... no concrete evidence has ever been produced to prove that the D,DH,DU, markings have a definitive issue system. although it is safe to say that the K.M. watches were indeed for the navy and the RLM marked (REICHS-LUFTFAHRTMINISTERIUM) watches were issued to the german air ministry .....the watches are usually identifiable by these characteristics..around 34mm across excluding the crown..usually chrome plated although there are stainless steel examples..a six slotted screw back(some examples like the para(paul raff) have a snapback)...black dial(there are white dials but they seem to be more rare) with arabic numbers and a subseconds dial..shock resistant with radium digits and hands...many different movements were used..one movement that is seen alot is the A. SCHILD 1130 15 jewel movement(AS1130,anton schild,grenchen)...most of the watches were swiss made although some were made in germany as well...some of the brands are :bwc,anker,weimer,mitschele,speck,selza,zentra,hado,berg,stowa,nila,mimo,mulco,aristo,aeschbach,wagner,cortebert,exita,longines,silvana,helvetia,dogma,arsa,flora,grana,minerva,eterna,revue sport,phenix,syntakt,monitor,buren,moeris,siegerin,acacia,era,pronto,gala,recta,bulla,nisus,tritona,pierpont,helma,stabila,para,edo,zenith,freco, onda,helios,titus,helbros,gustonia,alpina,etanche,glycine and on and on.....please take a moment to look at the photo gallery section that shows ww2 german military personnel wearing non issue watches while on duty..there are many watches out there that were private purchase and not issue..i invite you to bookmark this page as it is updated quite often..i welcome comments and photographs to add to this site ...
