ALASKAN PRIDE

George the Boatwright
This week George runs a-muck on the 15.5 ft. Izzy Mae. “I had to put in the steering console and next I will install the throttle controls.” Mr. Jackson is a busy man, but he still manages to prepare for this upcoming fishing season even though he is yet to find a regular partner.
I can hear my dad telling me, “its only a fourteen footer son, don’t over do it.” I did it any way.
Bass Ackwards
A minor unexpected certainty presented Itself late Wednesday evening according to Boatwright Captain Jack, “ we originally projected to have our first test run completed yesterday, but my Yup’ik assistant (assistant Boatwright Afcan) discovered that when I turn my steering wheel left the boat turns right and when I turn the boat right the boat turns left.” Mr. Afcan stated that the steering is still completely functional and just backwards.
Cheyenne Continues to Excel
Cheyenne continues to excel in her curriculum this year. She reads and writes every day. Her teacher continues to remind Dionne and I of the amount of progress she makes. “When she first came to school this year she was almost an entire grade behind. It is amazing what the structure has done for her.” Although she its just posing with one of her fathers college level text she continues to woe everyone with her desire to succeed.
Louisa sits with her while she reads to her. “they remind me of Willie and I when we were younger. I am really proud of my children they do everything together. Cheyenne is a little mother hen over her sisters. We may have to give her the honorary title of “Corporal Jackson” ( I may even see a new Sarge on the block”
It like riding a bike?
Finally, Cheyenne coerces her dad to bike over the bridge with her on her way to her eye appointment. “I felt like I was going to have a heart-attack.” I made it over the bridge ok, but as we headed back toward the bridge Cheyenne told me, “dad you have to save your energy, I don’t think you are going to make it back unless I slow down for you.” She was right, but to prove to my self I wasn’t as out of shape as everyone says I am I had to jump back onto the bike and go over the bridge one more time.
I made it over in one piece, but coming back the second time was a challenge. I headed toward the bridge and past up an 85 year old lady named, Alice Mechesney, she is known as the old lady who rides her bike everywhere. As I passed her I could hear her wheezing. I made it over the hump and could still hear her hacking away behind me on her bike, she’s old I thought to myself. Just as I broke the hump on the bridge she zoomed on past me as if I were standing still. I couldn’t catch up to her.
