First on air 21st November 1996, GB3EA served the Southampton/ Eastleigh Area, hence it's callsign, on the 70 cms Amateur Band.
Run by the South Hampshire Repeater Group, EA was the first in a group of repeaters serving the Southampton/Central Southern Hampshire area.
Update April 2000
The VHF repeater project, callsign GB3SH, has finally happened, find it on 145.6625, ctcss 71.9, more details on the GB3SH web page (link below). GB3EA now also had ctcss fitted and used the same 71.9 tone.
Outputing about 15 watts ERP, GB3EA operated from a site in Bassett Southampton (NGR SU423160, Locator IO90HW), with the antenna at 70 feet AGL, on a frequency of 433.200 Mhz, the input being the standard 1.6 Mhz higher (for those with channelised radios RB8).
However a further power increase by itself would not have helped the coverage as it's mainly the receive that's the limiting factor (Alligator repeaters, like UB do nothing to help the situation, perhaps being a 'University' repeater its natural, academics of have very selective hearing and BIG mouths) and without R.S.G.B. Ltds approval the antenna height or power output could not be increased.
A brief interlude whilst our site is torn down and rebuilt, without any chance of us returning to it.
And then off air awaiting resiting (we had a new site) and approval (much dragging of feet), one day in late 2005 we heard we may be back on soon....
