winner.
Stone Cold Steve Austin. The mere mention of his
name will bring any sold-out crowd to its feet in a
crazed frenzy. Never before has the world of
sports-entertainment seen a phenomenon like the
one that Stone Cold Steve Austin has created. At
any live event you attend, all you see is a sea of
Austin 3:16. Why? 'Cause Stone Cold said so!
When the Texas Rattlesnake entered the Mecca
Arena in Milwaukee, for the 1996 King Of The
Ring, he never could have imagined that before
the evening was through, he would change the
entire face of the wrestling world. After beating
the Bible-referencing Jake "The Snake" Roberts to
become King Of The Ring, Austin accepted his
crown, and upon doing so informed Roberts that
"Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass!" With
that simple phrase, Austin became the most
popular superstar to ever compete in this sport.
Some peers say Stone Cold Steve Austin is a
suicide machine with lack of regard for authority
and rules. But you can't deny this superstar is
tougher than leather when he steps through the
ring ropes. Without a doubt, there are still plenty
of unwritten chapters in the book of Austin 3:16!
The Rock
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 275 pounds
From: Miami, Florida
Favorite Quote: "Know Your Role!"
Finishing Move: The Rock Bottom
Career Highlights: World Wrestling Federation Champion (3), Intercontinental Champion (2), Tag Team Champion (3)
The Rock is a third-generation superstar with immeasurable athleticism--and cockiness to boot! After graduating as an All-American football star from the University of Miami, Rocky Maivia entered the World Wrestling Federation and quickly became the Intercontinental Champion.
Under controversial circumstances, The Rock won the World Wrestling Federation Championship at Survivor Series 1998. The Rock went on to win the title two more times, making the "Great One" a three-time Federation Champion. He’s a gifted athlete, he’s gifted on the microphone—he’s simply a gifted entertainer. And from the Rolex watch to the $500 shirts to the eyebrow and the Corporate Elbow, The Rock is just plain cool.
Whether he’s a champion or a contender, a fan favorite or the most hated superstar on the roster, The Rock is a 27-year-old phenom. He’s already the "Most Electrifying Man in Sports-Entertainment," and when it’s all said and done he may go down in history as the most decorated, well-known and renowned superstar the Federation has ever known.
The People's Champ fights HHH, becomes a Triple Crown Winner, and teams with ... Mankind?!
After his great disappointment at Backlash, The Rock became involved with an old nemesis in Triple H, who had decided he was going to go through anyone and everyone to move up the Federation ladder. Hunter attempted to destroy the People's Champ once and for all, locking The Rock in a casket before beating the coffin with a slegehammer. The Rock suffered a broken arm as a result of the brutal attack. Then, when the "Great One" took on the Undertaker for the Federation Championship at King of the Ring, Triple H interfered in the match, assisting the Undertaker in his victory over The Rock.
The two old rivals were both driven toward becoming the number one player in the game. Consequently, Triple H and The Rock took each other on in a Strap Match at Fully Loaded with a title shot on the line. Again, Hunter employed outside forces, namely Chyna and Mr. Ass, in an attempt to overcome the People's Champ. Though Triple H emerged victorious, the battle between the two was far from over.
At this point, The Rock was a man possessed. He took out his frustrations on Mr. Ass at SummerSlam, forcing the "assman" to kiss the buttocks of a great fat woman. The Rock continued his quest for the title only to be impeded by Shane McMahon. The Federation owner pushed the People's Choice into a confrontation with Undertaker and Big Show, which eventually led to a tag match between the unholy duo and The Rock, who shockingly accepted Mankind as his partner. Together, the two superstars who had nearly destroyed each other months earlier used their combined talents to wrestle the Federation Tag Titles away from Taker and Show. Yet another chapter was added to The Rock's legacy, as he became a Triple Crown winner.
ROAD DOGG
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 236 pounds
From: Nashville, Tennessee
Favorite Quote: "Oh you didn’t know? Your ass better call somebody!"
Career highlights: Tag Team Champion (5) (current); Hardcore Champion, Intercontinental Champion
After proving himself in the tag team division by securing the Tag Team Championship on three occasions, Road Dogg has done the same in singles competition. He was one of the first Hardcore Champions before he was stripped of the title due to injury. Just a few weeks after returning, he defeated Val Venis to become the Intercontinental Champion.
While the Road Dogg was in the ring winning titles, he attained more and more popularity with the fans. When he gets on the microphone, the crowd chants along with him. One of the most charismatic superstars in the Federation, the Road Dogg is as entertaining as he is tough.
Ken Shamrock
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 235 lbs.
From: San Diego, California
Finishing Move: Ankle Lock Submission
Career Highlights: 1998 King Of The Ring, Intercontinental Champion, Tag Team Champion (with Big Boss Man)
While fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship circuit, ABC television called him "The World's Most Dangerous Man". A master of submissions, Ken Shamrock was perhaps the most skilled fighter ever to compete in the Octagon, and quickly became a UFC Champion.
Shamrock entered the World Wrestling Federation in February of 1997 and astounded many wrestling insiders with his transition from the UFC to the Federation. In fact, Ken was voted 1997's "Rookie of the Year" by many of the writers of World Wrestling Federation Magazine.
In 1998, Shamrock really came into his own. He was crowned 1998 King of the Ring, one of the Federation’s highest honors. Later that year, in October, he won the Intercontinental Championship in an eight-man tournament on RAW IS WAR!
Though Shamrock continues to face more and more obstacles, the World's Most Dangerous Man looks to continue that success in 1999 and beyond.
Kane
Height: 7'0"
Weight: 326 lbs.
Finishing Move: Tombstone Piledriver
Career Highlights: Former World Wrestling Federation Champion, Tag Team Champion (4)
No superstar in history has made more of an immediate impact than Kane. On October 5, 1997, the world met Kane, as the seven-foot monster tore off the door to "Hell in the Cell" in order to get to his brother, the Undertaker. The siblings later fought in the first-ever Inferno Match!
Less than one year after he arrived, Kane became the World Wrestling Federation Champion by defeating Stone Cold Steve Austin at the 1998 King of the Ring. Though his reign was short-lived, the seven-foot monster proved he could live up to all expectations.
Since then, Kane has been a Tag Team Champion on three occasions. Once a man of no emotion, Kane has somewhat broken out of his shell. However, the 7-footer still remains a monster in the ring.

Cactus Jack is back!
Jan. 14, 2000
The most demented of the "Three Faces of
Foley" has returned! Saying that Mankind just
wasn't ready for a street fight, Mick Foley
ripped off his mask and his dress shirt to
reveal the infamous Cactus Jack T-shirt! The
fans went nuts as Foley's attitude shifted from "Have a nice day!" to "I'm
going to kick your @#$!!!"
Considering all that Foley has been through lately, the change shouldn't be
a surprising one. After all, Mankind is the comic everyman, and Foley's
other persona - Dude Love - is the hippie chick magnet. Cactus Jack seems
to be the only persona capable of the kind of violence necessary at the
Royal Rumble on Jan. 23.
The "Cactus Jack" character has been around for years. In his best-selling
book, "Have a Nice Day," Mankind explains how he first got the name:
"I wanted to be Dude Love," writes Foley, "but I knew that I just didn't have
the experience or the talent to be Dude Love yet … In the meantime, I
needed another name … I thought back to a wrestling fantasy game that I
had ordered a few years earlier, in which I had been Mick 'Big Train' Foley,
and my dad had been Cactus Jack … so when [ring announcer] Hank
[Hudson] asked me my name, 'Cactus Jack' was the answer that came
out."

Foley then picked the fictitious hometown of
Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, which he
says fit the character like a glove. Soon after,
he added his famous catchphrase "Bang bang!"
to the mix.
Working in Texas, Japan, and everywhere in
between, Foley gained a reputation as a
Hardcore superstar. Knowing that he didn't have the traditional wrestling
look, his deranged and maniacal attitude set him apart from the pack.
Indeed, Cactus Jack was known worldwide for his toughness and his daring
ways.
After stints in nearly every organization in the world, Foley finally packed
his bags and headed to the World Wrestling Federation in 1996. But Foley
was re-packaged as Mankind. Then, in July 1997, Foley reprised his Dude
Love gimmick, teaming with Stone Cold Steve Austin to win the World
Wrestling Federation Tag Team Championship.
But Cactus Jack never graced a Federation ring. Until September 1997, that
is.
The event was a live RAW, ironically enough at Madison Square Garden.
And Foley's opponent was, ironically enough, Triple H. The two men had
been in a huge feud every since Hunter defeated Foley in the finals of the
King of the Ring tournament, and Triple H was set to face Mankind that
night, ironically enough in a street fight.
But as Hunter stood in the ring, Mankind appeared on the TitanTron and
said he wasn't in the mood to compete that night. And neither was Dude
Love. So the man who would face Triple H was … Cactus Jack!
Cactus Jack is back (cont.)
After a dynamic brawl, Cactus actually
delivered a piledriver through a table! That
was enough for Cactus to secure the win.
Fans thought that would be the last time we
ever saw Jack in the Federation, until later that
year, when Cactus developed an issue with the
New Age Outlaws. Cactus brought in his friend
Chainsaw Charlie, and the two men started a few with the Outlaws, which
culminated in tag team gold at WrestleMania XIV.
After that, Cactus Jack disappeared for a long while, as Foley instead
competed as Dude Love for a few months before reverting back to his
Mankind persona, a persona that helped him secure three World Wrestling
Federation Championships and numerous tag title reigns in the ensuing
months.
In May 1999, Cactus Jack was brought back for a night when commissioner
Shawn Michaels decreed that Cactus would have to face Mideon and
Viscera in a Handicap Match. But since that match, Cactus had been
dormant.
Until now.
Cactus Jack represents the most sick, the most twisted, the most delusional
side of Mick Foley's personality. Triple H must have forgotten what happens
to Foley when he's wearing that T-shirt. All of a sudden, there are no rules.
Pain becomes fuel. And whoever's in the ring across from this maniac
usually wakes up with a headache the next morning.
My advice for Triple H heading into the Royal Rumble? Buy a copy of Mick's
book. Then maybe you will understand why Cactus Jack is such a sick
individual.
