Another day in the workers paradise that is WBAI NY.
Before continuing some apologies are in order. First to Ms. Hoffman, my source was very wrong in saying that you were fired from Wake up Call.
More importantly the monies from the marathon are going to paying the stations bills. That has been confirmed. The Gang has used the station to raise monies for their web project WBIX. I do apologize for my errors and hope no one lost sleep over anything I may have written. Lastly I want to apologize for the terrible spelling and grammar that's been along for the ride. The ride ends here boys.
Recently I spoke with a employee who's been with the station for over a decade what she thought about the climate at WBAI comparing the current situation with the climate a year ago. "Utrice could be heavy she's very much about getting things done. She would make an appointment with you in which the two of you talked. You knew where you stood with Utrice Leid. The Gang on the other hand have no meetings and share no information no paper, no record. People are more scared now than they were a year ago."
"The Gang?"
"That's what producers have taken to calling them. They're arrogant and loud."
"I hear the non-paid staff are looking for representation, union wise."

Good morning.
The WBAI laundrymat is back in operation. Inside sources report that an undisclosed amount of listener dollars have been shunted to the operation of WBIX, this of course without the consent of the listeners who provides the funds. From what I'm told engineering supplys, wires, microphones, etc. are coming and going at a maddening pace at the station. No paper work or accounting of supplies is occuring. Equipment slated for use in the station is finding it's way out of the station and into the hands of Errol Maitland and Ryme Katkhouda . Between Errol and Ryme they run the station operations wise. Those two also run WBIX. Which means they or only their friends get to use the full services of the facility WBAI. So if you do an interview with guest they don't like for some reason, you could find it very hard to book studio time or just get things done. Jobs have been invented just so some of their friends can be employed. Employed doing what ask? Seeing as these are not radio people, from what I hear they spend a lot of time with BW. Telling him what a genius he is at running the station, and eating chicken with him. Not a bad way to make a living. But many folks in the network lost their jobs due to the stupidity of the previous national board and their succesors The Gang, and now the Texas Fried Chicken eaters are running things.
Watch the money as well as who's counting it. Pockets have bulged in the past due to poor accounting practices, or is it creative accounting. Enron is not the only big ripoff. Why did Amy Goodman have check writing privlilges? What's up with that? She's an employee, and a member of two unions. Only management can do the check thing.
Times come for an investigation of these folks. Criminal inditments just may be in order. Did you get your premium, from January?
Further, I've recieved a recent report that most producers have not been informed as to where they stand vis the upcoming changes. There still is no paper work be shared with the producers. Every thing is verbal with The Gang one must suppose this way there are no records of who did what or said what, no responsiblity, no one's in charge. Leslie Cagen and Dan Coughlin your inmates are destroying the asylum. The FCC and FBI are watching.

Good morning fellow travelers there still seems to be no plan to either share with the listener audience the decision making method that was used in this latest major changes in radio programming at WBAI NY. Bernard while on the outside was screaming, not only for his job back , but for 'transparency' in the process, as an quick aside Bernard was working for a major church here in NYC while relieved of PD duty. BW where's the transparency? Producers are very concerned that their years of good work will be curtailed. That they will have to find another resource or means to get the word out concerning their various community's.
Heard George Stonefish on Circle Of Red Nations Monday evening. What has happened to Vanessa & Lucia? Whereas George did a great show, and is an icon at WBAI NY, George spent sixteen years in jail due to a cocaine conviction. He's paid the price for that and he's currently employed by the Soros Foundation. Believe he involved with handing out Foundation grants. Vanessa call me.
George created native American programming at WBAI.

BW claims that program changes are coming, a well placed source inside of WBAI NY tells me she hasn't seen it on paper. Matter of fact many producers are having anxity attacks over this. BW has loyalty bills to pay and this is how he pays folks off. No matter wether the person can do radio or not.
Fred Kuhn says his show "Light Show", is moving to Wednesday afternoons effective June 12th. Mr. Kuhn says he was told personally by bw about the changes. No paper exchanged. Mike Feder is going back to his old slot Sunday mornings at 11 am. Administration that is friendly to trees, a paperless office, rule by verbal decree, a workers paradise. My source reports and I've seen this as well bw often says one thing then does something completely different. She reports two program council meetings that went on for at least two hours no paper distributed as to decisions made or how and based on what reasoning. Its a sure bet that bw wants to take out all programing that was created in the last year. To be replaced with what? His friends, people he owes favors to.

May is just about over and June one of my favorite months and times is coming. I have a few things to share with all of you but first as there may be no update tomorrow please allow me to do this. Our good friend Paul Williams wishes to thank all who expressed their feelings towards his son Tao Kamau who passed on last year. Tao would have been 19 on June 2nd last year. Young Tao left us and is forever 18. Those of us who were priviliged to know him know what a loss his family has suffered. Tao Kamau Williams passed 31st of May 2001. At Truthsayer we offer prayers to aid the spirit of one formerly called Tao Kamau.
Yesterday I listened to Gary Byrd whereas the brother has the voice no doubt, his show was lacking. I was under the impression that Mr. Byrd was just around for the fundraiser. My main issue is that he did not take any phone calls, I listened till four pm then tuned in occasionaly. After the four pm hour he had a panel many of the folks I've talked with myself, but what got to me was that the conversation was about the Carribiean the participents were four men, no female voices. If any female should be in the coversation, it should have been Utrice Leid. What struck me was all the men, Herb Boyd, Don Rojas and others all know and I'm sure respect Utrice Leid and as one person talked about Amos Wilson Utrice has been working on editing a volumn of Brother Wilson's work. Due out some time this fall. I don't know who produced that segment but they must do better.

Good Tuesday to you all the painful bitch session (marathon) is finally done. The pretenders to the throne are snipping each other and there is no joy at BAI. Rumor has it that dissident player,Roselle Hoffman aka Rustyhad a verbal bash with her boyfrirend
Hoffman was or is one of the producers of Wake up Call.
I heard there were some jibes taken at Utrice Leid during the final days of the thon. Let me say that it takes two brain dead fools to even think about messing with sister Utrice.
Paul DeRienzo's article lays down pretty much what
a bunch of lowlifes these fools are. There's lots more to this story, like the Pacifica investigation into money laundering at WBAI NY. Ms. Goodman did have check writing priviliges several years ago. It would be nice to look into that. As an employee, she can suggest a fellow worker for hire but she is not management, and cannot hire. Of course I'm talking about the Fernandez adventure.
Switching gears, what's this about Gary Bryd the man does decent radio, but his style and pacing do not seem to fit into the space provided for it. Plus I heard he was agreeing with some folks who claimed to have issue with Utrice Leid'smanagement style. I don't know who this person was or is, I'm sure this person never worked with Utrice, so basically he does not know what he talks about.
Errol Maitland does not belong on the air. If Bernard White wants to have anything good said about him when it's all over he should take Errol off the air. Last Fridayduring Taking Aim Errol apparently had an attack of diearrhea of the mouth, and I suppose it got good to him because he spoke in a run on sentence for almost ten minutes, effectivly drowing out Mya Schon was was doing quite well without his assistance. Now it is understood that Bernard would very much like to icepick programs that came in under the prior management. But ole Bernard dosen't have a clue as to what or whom to replace these shows with. I believe Taking Aim is on his hit list, thus that fool Errol Maitland can get away with terrible behavior ON THE AIR! I would hope that those people who feel that voices should be on BAI without editorial comment, or poorly constructed run on verbal merde.

At WBAI Utrice Leid accuses Goodman of improper and possibly illegal hiring practices. Involving Deepa Fernandez. According to Leid, Fernandez was not authorized to work in the United States, but Goodman tried to get Pacifica to sponsor Fernandez to work at Democracy Now, although there were qualified US citizens available to do the job, a serious violation of immigration laws. Eventually Leid says Fernandez was hired when Goodman got Van Isler to pay Fernandez. Leid asserts that "there could have been serious trouble with the INS."
Leid also claims she was the target of intense personal attacks and harassment. She says WBAI producer Mimi Rosenberg "kicked me and called me a fucking bitch," and that she was constantly followed by two women Leid calls her "personal stalkers," one of whom always carried a video camera. She says one of them came into her office and had to be "kicked out." Leid's home was also picketed.
But Leid saves most of her vitriol for what she calls Goodman's attack on Pacifica program director Steve Yasko's gay sexuality. Leid says Goodman falsely accused Yasko of "misogynistic" behavior, charges that were fully investigated and found "meritless." Adding that Goodman made the charges against Yasko to run up Pacifica's legal bill. She also says Goodman continued to bill Pacifica for Democracy Now's telephone and other expenses even after Goodman had removed the show from WBAI and was syndicating it on cable TV. Leid charges Goodman with trying to launch her own business, subsidized by Pacifica.
Steve Yasko says he would have sued his attackers if he'd only knew who they were Similarly other Pacifica employees also report that many of the attacks on them were either anonymous or from people they didn't know. "The Pacifica Campaign portrayed me as something I'm not, a child pornographer," Yasko continues, "They sent out an email to hundreds of public radio professionals and colleagues saying I was a sex purveyor." He describes one email that was mysteriously blind cc'd to him that states "I need $2000 to finish the Yasko project." He says two more similar emails followed culminating in one that read, "I never hurt anyone, if you're interested in that kind of thing ask Juan, he has those contacts." Yasko says Robert Knight eventually admitted to him that he had sent the emails, Knight justified the messages by telling Yasko, "You don't know what a living hell my life is."
Yasko complains he was the victim of a conspiracy meant to destroy him personally and over time the attack intensified. He says the worst smears came from a former Pacifica employee and self-described anarchist named Lyn Gerry. Yasko explains that to teach himself computer skills he set up a small personal web homepage under the name of an "alter ego" style character named Mike Bilt that was dedicated to gay travel.
