Fudoshin Sword Works

Fudoshin Sword Works is my newest venture. The service I offer includes making custom handles "Tsuka" for Japanese style swords either modern or antiques. I will also do repairs of existing tsuka, "if they are repairable!" and will do custom re-wraps.

For those wanting full custom refitting of their sword, including custom tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki, I will also accommodate. I will soon be dealing in katana blades from various sourses to provide base models for customization. Costs will depend on the blade ordered. The picture to your left is my most recent. It is using a Paul Chen Practical-Pro Katana, and included a custom engraved and refinished Saya.

All of the tsuka I make use "Aspen" as the wood, which makes very good handles as it is light weight and very durable. If a customer insists though, I can get traditional Honoki wood, although this will cost considerably more. Over the wood I use "Mature" ray skins of top quality. I can either do ray skin strips on either side, or full ray skin wraps for increased strength. The tsuka are then wrapped in various traditional styles in customers choice of either imported Japanese cotton or silk flat cord, or "Ito" in an assortment of colours.

If a full refit is requested, I offer either imported Japanese Iron fittings, or more economical ones cast in copper, brass or silver from castings of original pieces. Prices will vary depending on the request.

I cannot quote prices here, but if you e-mail me with a detailed description of what you want done, I will give you a quote at that time. I can also give a list of the various blades and prices available. My prices are quite reasonable, in fact I have found that the prices I have charged for jobs that I have done have been under what others in the same business are charging for similar services.

Also at costomer request I will make matching Fukuro (Sword bags) for your sword. These will range from $75.00 to $150.00 depending on the materials requested. If you have a Japanese silk Kimono obi that you wish converted to Fukuro, I can do that as well.

All of my products and services also come with a limited guarantee, the stipulations of which will vary depending on the job. Thank you for visiting my web page, and please drop me an e-mail for more details.
