Netiquette


Definition:

* Netiquette is etiquette on the Internet. Since the Internet changes rapidly, its netiquette does too, but it's still usually based on the Golden Rule. The need for a sense of netiquette arises mostly when sending or distributing e-mail, posting on message board, or chatting. To some extent, the practice of netiquette depends on understanding how e-mail, message boards, chatting, or other aspects of the Internet actually work or are practiced.

Guidelines of Netiquette:

* The following are some of the guidelines you must keep in mind when sending or distributing email, posting on message boards or chat rooms.

1. Identify yourself by using a signature at tne end of your message

2. Include a subject line which will give a brief description of your message

3. Avoid sarcasm for some people might not know what you mean and could take it the wrong way

4. Keep your messages to the point and on topic

5. Avoid writing messages using all caps, FOR IT SEEMS LIKE YOU'RE SHOUTING

6. Never send chain letters or spam

7. When attaching files, don't send any larger than about 50K

8. Acknowledge and return messages in a timely manner

9. Use appropriate lanuauge. Don't send abusive or heated messages

10. Use appropriate emoticons and other langugage signals. 'LOL' :o)~
