Our home is in western Arden Hills, we built the house 21 years ago.
We were the first house in the neighborhood. We were here before telephone lines, before the main road was put in, and even before the permanent electricity lines were put in. Meghann was a newborn when we moved in. She was born when we lived in our first home in Roseville.
We have a summer home on Horseshoe Lake in Richmond, MN. When we bought the property, Adam was 3. He started fishing that summer and he still spends most of his time trying to catch the big one.
The links below, represent the cultural heritage of our family.
The name Dolinar (Doe lee NAAR)-The "old country" pronunciation, is of Slovenian heritage. My grandparents Frank Dolinar I, and Mary Krisnar, were born there but their birth certificates say Austria. This area has changed hands many times through history. SLOVENIA did not become an independent country until 1995, after breaking away from the Yougoslavian group of countries. It is just northeast of ITALY.
The ITALIAN links are the other half of my heritage. My mother Rose Maria Martire (maiden) was born in Nashwauk, near HIBBING-my home town. Her parents Eugunia(James) and Louigina(Louise) Martire were born in Pedace Cocenza, ITALY
This is in the southern province of Calabria .
Both my mother and father were first generation AMERICANS. They passed on the pride, traditions, and strong CATHOLIC beliefs of their ethnic backgrounds. This has enriched my life and the lives of our entire family.
Kathleen & I Pass down many of those ethnic traditions to our children. Kathy too is of ITALIAN decent from her Mother.
For example, Kathy prepares an exceptional Italian Christmas Eve Dinner each year.
It includes: traditional spagetti with Kathy's outstanding spagetti sauce, meatballs[ a closely guarded recipe]-to die for- and bracciole- a thin rolled beef containing italian seasons and a bit of pork. It is coolked in the sauce with the meatballs until it nearly falls apart- this is something you have to try. Second, she prepares an olive oil and riccota spagetti dish with a divine flavor. Third, Baccala- filet of cod sauted in olive oil, & italian spices with sliced red potatoes- heavenly.
A lettuce salad with romaine, iceberg, bib lettuce and florets of cauliflower & brocccli, parmesan and garlic corutons, and bits of gargonzola cheeze tossed with a olive oil and balsamic vinegarette dressing. Chianti, with traditional italian toasts "Ala Fagimilia" "Gendane" After the dinner, annisette,or Sambuca is offered then robust coffe with home -made cookies and torelli's- an italian pastry flavored with almond and coated with a hard sugar glaze. Buon Appittio.
It doesn't get any better than that. BUON NATALE!
