Dr. Kirksey,
I was especially blessed by the chapter in your book that dealt with the call of God upon a person’s life. Recently it has been amazing to read and hear of the number of our seminary students studying for a life in the "ministry" who do not feel a definite call to do the work of the kingdom. I recommend your excellent book; SOUND BIBLICAL PREACHING, to be a part of each of our Southern Baptist Seminaries curriculum. May God add to your tribe.
In HIS love,

"Unfortunately, many who surrender to the "ministry" today do not have a clear calling to preach. Sound Biblical Preaching will help settle that issue. While I was reading, the fire stirred within me to preach the Word. Sound Biblical Preaching clarifies the call and provides a motivation to preach."
Dr. Jim Richards
Executive Director of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention
First Vice-President of the Southern Baptist Convention
Jim Richards was saved and answered the call to preach at age seventeen. He pastored for twenty-one years in Louisiana, later serving as Director of Missions in Bentonville, Arkansas. He has preached over 150 revivals traveling and ministering in all 50 states and sixteen countries. He has preached at seminary chapel services, pastors' conferences, state conventions, and the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention. Dr. Richards has served the SBC on various committees and boards.
Dr. Richards’ education includes two undergraduate degrees, a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis. He was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus of both seminaries.
Dr. Kirksey has addressed clearly and helpfully the Biblical mandate and mission of the preacher. Filled with memorable quotations and illustrations, Dr. Kirksey's concise volume paints an accurate and inspiring picture of what sound Biblical preaching is and who the sound Biblical preacher must be. Another commendable feature of the Book is its many Biblical references, indicating that Dr. Kirksey's priority is to define and discuss preaching from God's perspective, before whom the preacher lives and serves, and to Whom the preacher must give an account.
Dr. David L. Olford , President, Olford Ministries International, Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. David L. Olford, an ordained minister of the Gospel, has been president of OMI since 1994. Sound Biblical Preaching (SBP) is thoroughly researched and generously referenced with Scripture and testimonies of preachers that reminds us of that divine appointment that first set our hearts on fire with the desire to preach and filled our lives with one goal – the passion to share not only Scripture and God’s plan of salvation, but to share with others our personal relationship with Christ.
Dr. Kirksey does well at articulating the divine and unexplainable call of God on a man’s life to preach.
SBP is filled with stories of and quotes and examples from classic preachers who struggled as well as excelled in doing what they all affirm and endorse as the number one vocation in the entire world – to preach the hope giving, power living and redemptive enabling Good News of Jesus Christ.
The greatest thing SBP does is to encourage and remind us preachers why we were called to preach and why we can’t give up.
It’s a reminder to the seasoned pastor that his call is divine and his steps appointed by God. It’s a manual and a guide for those seeking to clarify the call to preach and a warning to those flippantly flirting with the notion of preaching for any other reason other than for God’s glory.

Dr. Kirksey’s book, Sound Biblical Preaching, is well-organized and readable book. To the teachable minister, it should be very convicting and convincing. His personal conviction of the importance of Biblical preaching shows through in his many quotations. Many preachers who are past the “honeymoon” stage of ministry need to read this book.
Since I teach research in my English Composition course, I want to use Dr. Kirksey’s book to demonstrate to students how to merge quotations to make an organic whole: the student’s own work but incorporating the ideas of many people.

In Sound Biblical Preaching, Dr. Franklin Kirksey skillfully and meticulously synergizes the thoughts of innumerable recognized authorities into a priceless catalog of inspiration and wisdom. Kirksey’s work is a “must read” for preachers and preachers-to-be who aspire to effectively proclaim the Word of God. The breadth of his writing speaks first to Kirksey’s scholarly stamina and acumen and secondly—and perhaps most profoundly—to his passion for and dedication to the practice of sound biblical preaching. If you agree with Paul E. Scherer that, “The only thing that can take the place of preaching is better preaching,” read Sound Biblical Preaching. You’ll be on your way to “better preaching.”

Comments on Sound Biblical Preaching by Dr. Franklin L. Kirksey
"In this helpful book Dr. Kirksey deals both with theological soundness and practical help in preaching. He encourages us to have confidence in the authority and relevance of the Bible and the importance of preaching based on Bible truth. This book can provide guidance to inexperienced preachers and encouragement to those who have grown discouraged in the ministry."
To Friends of God’s Word:
I am pleased to commend to you Sound Biblical Preaching: Giving the Bible a Voice by Dr. Franklin L. Kirksey. In this Volume Frank has carefully made a case for the supremacy of the Bible in Christian preaching and the need for ministers to return to expository preaching in fulfilling Christ’s command to “feed my sheep.” Dr. Kirksey cites outstanding contemporary biblical preachers and the success they have had. He is convincing in his argument that sound biblical preaching is the heart and soul of a pastor’s pulpit ministry and is the basis for building great churches.
You will find much sage advice in Sound Biblical Preaching: Giving the Bible a Voice.
