'TASHA' - An Occasional Lurcher

HER HISTORY.

This is 'TASHA'. She was whelped in September 2001 from a first-cross Beddlington x Greyhound out of a Whippet x Beddlington x Collie.
She came from an 'own use' breeder in South Cumbria out of a litter of 8.

BASIC TRAINING.

I kind of extended the 'Boke of St. Alban's' by a year and went with 'in the first TWO years ye shall he feed' and 'the THIRD year to the field ye shall he lead'!
In fact she entered herself on her second birthday whilst on a walk near some paddocks on the South Coast!
We continued with recall and retrieve training for another few months before I eventually bought a lamp and 10A/hr battery pack, together with a good quality slip-lead from Turners Fieldsports.

HER WORK.

I have permission to hunt on a couple of local farms and go lamping about three times a week.

FEEDING.

Feeding is important with any animal and in particular a running dog. My life-style and other commitments make it unviable to feed the 'Raw Meaty Bones' diet, combined with the fact that she is a 'indoor' dog, so I feed Nutro Choice 'Adult Maintenance'. I did try 'Performance for Working Dogs' but found the protien level to high (31%). Her diet is supplemented by cooked rabbit (freshly caught!!).

If anyone has any tips for a novice Lurcher owner and part-time lamper I would be pleased to recieve them in my guest-book.
