Intestinal Problems and Food Allergies
By Dudley Delany, R.N., M.A., D.C.
Many years ago, I went through a rather difficult time financially--so much so, in fact, that one day all I had to eat was oatmeal. Now, it happens that I very much like oatmeal, so it was no great hardship for me to have a nice big bowl of the cereal for breakfast, another for lunch, and still another for dinner. Everyone knows how healthy and nutritious oatmeal is, so I should have been all the healthier and happier, right? WRONG!!!
That night, my intestinal tract felt like it was on fire (which, incidentally Chamomile tea helped to quench), and the next morning I had loose stools. It was then that I realized I have celiac disease, an intolerance to the gluten in wheat, barley, rye, oats, and related hybrid grains. Ingestion of gluten in any form causes an immune reaction that actually tends to destroy the lining of the small intestine, and, as a consequence, create all kinds of malabsorptive problems AS WELL AS sensitivities to other foodstuffs.
Today, it is pretty well recognized--at least in holistic health circles--that if you ingest food or drink to which you are allergic, sensitive, or intolerant, it will, to one degree or another, adversely affect your gastrointestinal tract.
Therefore, before you embark upon treating your intestinal problem the Edgar Cayce way, I personally URGE you to ascertain to what foodstuffs you are allergic/sensitive/intolerant and then AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! Unless you do, whatever treatment option you choose has no hope of real and lasting success.
Many people with intestinal problems like Crohn's disease, colitis, and IBS are finding that their conditions are helped immeasurably SIMPLY BY AVOIDING offending food and drink.
LET THIS BE A WORD TO THE WISE!!!
Many people find the 96-Food Domestic IgG ELISA Food Intolerance Test to be especially helpful in pinpointing problem foodstuffs.
